CN301 MIDI Settings Manual
The term MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, an international standard for connecting musical instruments, computers, and other devices to allow the exchange of performance data.
When the instrument is connected to a computer using a USB cable, the computer will recognize the instrument as a MIDI device, allowing the instrument to send and receive MIDI messages in the same manner as a normal MIDI interface.
Use a suitable USB cable to connect the USB type A port on the computer to the USB type B port on the digital piano. If there is no USB type A port on the computer, a conversion adapter may be required.
MIDI use case
When connected to a computer, the digital piano can be used to record and playback performances using sequencer software running on the computer. When the multi-timbral mode is enabled on the digital piano, it becomes possible to record and playback multi-track songs, with different sounds playing simultaneously on each MIDI channel.

MIDI settings
| Function name | Explanation | Default setting |
| MIDI Channel | This setting allows the transmit/receive channel to be specified. The selected channel will function as both the transmit and receive channel. Separate transmit/receive channels cannot be specified. | 1ch |
| Transmit Program Change Number | This function is used to transmit a program change number (ranging from 1 to 128) in order to change the sound of an external MIDI device. | 1 |
| Local Control | This setting determines whether the digital piano will play an internal sound when the keys are pressed. This setting is useful when using the digital piano to control an external MIDI device. When Local Control is set to “On”, the digital piano will play an internal sound and transmit information to an external MIDI device. | On |
| Transmit Program Change Number ON/OFF | This setting determines whether or not the digital piano will transmit program change information when sounds are changed. | On |
| Multi-timbral mode | This setting determines whether or not the digital piano is able to receive MIDI information on more than one MIDI channel simultaneously. This allows the instrument to play back multitrack, multi-timbral performance data sent from an external MIDI device. | Off |
| Channel Mute | This setting is enabled only when Multi-timbral Mode is ON. This setting deters- mines whether to receive information for each MIDI channel. | Play All |
▋ Entering MIDI settings
- On the Settings Menu screen, press the [UP]/[DOWN] button to select “MIDI Settings”.

- Press the [2] button to enter the MIDI Settings screen.
- Press the [UP]/[DOWN] button to select a setting.

- Press the [LEFT]/[RIGHT] button to set the value or type.
• Pressing the [LEFT]/[RIGHT] buttons simultaneously will restore the default setting.

MIDI Channel
▋ Setting MIDI channel
With “MIDI Channel” selected, press the [LEFT]/[RIGHT] button to select the MIDI channel.
The MIDI Channel setting is effective until the power is turned off.- The preferred MIDI Channel setting can be stored in the Startup Setting memory for automatic selection when the instrument is turned on. Please refer to the Owner’s Manual page 50 for more information.
Omni mode
When the digital piano is turned on, the instrument is automatically set to “Omni mode on”, allowing MIDI information to be received on all MIDI channels (1~16). When the MIDI Channel setting is used to specify a transmit/receive channel, the instrument will be set to “Omni mode off”.
Multi-timbral mode and Split/Dual modes
- Using Split mode with Multi-timbral mode enabled
Notes played in the lower section of the keyboard will be transmitted on the channel that is 1 channel higher than the specified channel.
For example, if the MIDI channel is set to 3, notes played in the lower section of the keyboard will be transmitted on channel 4. (If the specified MIDI channel is 16, the lower section / layered part will be transmitted on channel 1.) - Using Dual mode with Multi-timbral mode enabled
Notes played will be transmitted on two channels: the specified channel and the channel that is 1 channel higher. For example, if the MIDI channel is set to 3, notes played on the keyboard will be transmitted on channels 3 and 4. (If the specified MIDI channel is 16, the lower section / layered part will be transmitted on channel 1.)
Transmit Program Change Number
▋ Turning to Transmit Program Number ON/OFF
With “Transmit PGM #” selected, press the [LEFT]/[RIGHT] button to turn the setting ON or OFF.
▋ Sending a Program Number
With “Send PGM #” selected, press the [LEFT]/[RIGHT] buttons to select the Program Number, then press the [2] button to send the selected number.
Program Numbers in the range of 1~128 can be sent.
