Introduction
The Rockville rock slim 70B features 5.25 inches, wall speakers. These speakers come with a built-in 70V transformer with inputs for 8 watts or 4 watts. These speakers come with wall mount brackets. They have a woofer of 5.25 inches with a paper cone that allows it for natural sound reproduction. The speakers come with 2 separate terminals which allow you to select between 4 or 8 watts. These speakers can easily hang on the wall. It comes with recessed spring-loaded speaker wire terminals which make it easy to hide the wires. These speakers feature a beautiful and sleek design which is perfect for living rooms, restaurants, houses, etc.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- When the speakers are mounted on the wall, make sure the wall structure is reliable and the speakers are firmly attached.
- Install the speaker in a location that can structurally support the weight of the speaker and its mounting hardware. Otherwise, it may result in the unit falling down and possibly causing personal injury.
- Do not use nails, adhesives or other unauthorized devices. Long-term use and vibrations may cause it to fall easily.
- Do not touch or bump the woofer and tweeter. If these are damaged, the sound will be distorted.
- Make sure the volume is turned down when you are installing/removing cables or changing the input source. Failing to do so may cause damage to the speaker.
CHOOSING THE APPROPRIATE TAP
The taps are the three spring-loaded push terminals at the rear of the speakers, one black and two red. The two red terminals allow for either 4 watts or 8 watts for 70-volt input only. This range allows for full customization of the sound for the space in which the speakers are installed. In a restaurant, for example, you can tap your dining room, hallway, and bathroom speakers at 4 watts, then the speakers in the outside seating area can be set at 8 watts. Another feature of 70-volt speakers is that you can mix and match any type whether they are wall-mounted speakers (such as these), in-ceiling speakers, subwoofers, etc.

WIRING
70-volt speaker set-ups allow you to run very long lines of speaker wire without signal loss. Wire the specific (4w or 8w) positive terminals of the speakers to the positive 70-volt terminal of the amplifier only. The negative terminals on the speaker simply get wired to the negative terminal on the amp. You do not have to worry about impedance, the power is constant.
The total number of speakers multiplied by the tap value cannot exceed the output power (in watts) of your 70V amplifier. The example below shows 12 total speakers. Using the 8W taps, you will need an amplifier with at least 100 watts (12 x 8 = 96W). A good rule of thumb is to select an amplifier with 15 to 20% greater power; in this case, an amplifier that delivers about 120W.
MOUNTING

To mount the ROCK SLIM 70 speaker, make marks on the wall where you wish to mount the speaker. Using a drill, make holes where you made your marks (fig A). We recommend using wall anchors (fig B; not included) or drilling into a stud. If you are using anchors, make sure the holes are deep enough to accommodate them. Once the mounting screws (not included) are in place simply lift the speaker, align the screws with the mounting holes and slide onto the screws (fig C). Now tug the speaker down slightly to ensure that it is seated properly (fig D). Repeat these steps for your other speakers.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Make sure to turn all equipment off before cleaning. The cabinet only needs occasional dusting. Please do not touch the drive units. Do not attempt to clean the speakers with chemical solvents as this may damage the paint surface. Clean with a dry cloth.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Can these be used as Intercom speakers?
Yes, but you will need an additional amplifier to provide them power. - What company makes Rockville speakers?
Rockville speakers are made by Rockford Fosgate Products. - Are on-wall speakers any good?
Despite the apparent sacrilege, many high-end in-wall and in-ceiling speakers perform admirably for distributed audio or two-channel systems in addition to theatre applications. An in-wall speaker with a good design can reproduce sound quite accurately. - Are on-wall speakers better than in-wall speakers?
You can produce a realistic soundstage and stereo imaging by putting on-wall speakers at ear level, depending on critical listening and dispersion. These systems differ from in-ceiling speakers in that they add dimensionality in addition to the stereo effect. - What is an in-wall speaker?
In-wall speakers are speakers that can be put inside the wall but do not have an enclosure. Although adjusted to operate inside the wall, the speakers look, feel, and sound exactly like ordinary speakers. An in-wall speaker’s low-frequency driver is often installed in a rubber surround. - Are ceiling and wall speakers the same?
Simply said, ceiling speakers are positioned down-firing from the ceiling above, whilst in- and on-wall speakers are mounted front-firing with the woofers pointing horizontally across the room. - Do speakers sound better against a wall?
Keep in mind that walls also reflect sound. At least two to three feet should separate speakers from the closest wall (especially if your speaker is in a corner). Many speakers have bass ports that face the back. A rear bass port that is too close to a wall will reflect sound waves, blurring time. - Where do you mount surround sound speakers on the wall?
When putting surround speakers on a back wall, place them such that they flank the primary listening area and face the front of the space for the greatest effects. They ought to be elevated to a height of about six feet, and ideally, there ought to be a minimum distance of six feet between them as well. - How high should wall-mounted speakers be?
The speakers should be mounted at a height of about 4 to 6 feet.
