Roco 70330 Steam Locomotive

Starting locomotive operation

Unwrap model: Take the loco carefully out of the packing with the help of the foil (fig. 1).

Very important!
Before taking into service your model these bearings of the coupling rods must be oiled as otherwise there would be the risk of bad running qualities of dramage on he locomotive (see fig. 12).

Operating instructions: Before use is advisable to let the loco go around about 30 minutes forwards an 30 minutes backwards without load, to obtain an optomal circuit and best tractive power. The smallest radius this model should run is R3 (419,6 mm) or rather R2 (358 mm) of the ROCO track system (model without tubes protection pistons would run only if driven very carefully on R2) (fig. 2). Your locomotive will run smoothly on clean tracks only. For this purpose we recommend using item no. 46400, ROCO track cleaning van, or item no. 10002, ROCO track cleaning rubber, for removing heavy dirt.

Fittings: Operation is possible with different couplings (fig. 3). We recommend using the ROCO close coupling. In the enclosed accessory bag you will find small kits to be fitted on your locomotive. Please mount them cautiously.
Attention! Use glue only if indicated (fig. 2+3).

Maintenance of the model

To enjoy your model for a long time, it is necessary to service it regularly (i.e. after it has been in operation for approximately 30 hours). Uncouple the locomotive and tender first (fig. 7).

1. Cleaning of wheel contacts: Wheel contacts easily get dirty on tracks that are not entirely clean. Use a small brush to remove dirt from spots marked in Fig. 10.
2. Lubrication: Apply tiny oil drops to the spots marked in Fig. 12. Prior to lubrication dismantle the tender body (fig. 8). We recommend using item no. 10906, Roco Oiler. For lubrication of the gear parts (e.g. cogwheels, worm) we would recommend our Roco special grease (item no. 10905). Attention: Please do not oil these parts when using our grease.
3. Change of lights: see fig. 9
4. Steam generator application (fig. 4): First remove the smokestack (fig. 7) and then push in the Seuthe steam generator no. 10 (running in digital mode: use no.11).
5. Change of traction tire: Remove the bogie blind (fig. 10). Remove the traction tire using a pin or a fine screwdriver (fig. 11). When pressing on the new traction tyre please avoid twisting it.
6. Carbon Brush Changing: First, remove the tender body (fig. 8), and then the motor (fig. 13).

Assembly: During assembly please take care of correct position of contacts.

Working with etched Labels

Please note! To achieve proper mounting of the enclosed etched labels will you please follow these instructions:
As delivered the etched label surface is completely covered with paint. To make the metal numbers and letters visible the paint must be removed from the actual letter and numeral surfaces: this is done as follows:

1. Remove tool from the frame!
2. Dont remove the remaining signs from frame. Place them with their backs on a firm and completely level surface.
3. Remove the paint from the surface of the characters carefully either with the ROCO rubber (art. no. 10002) a sharp knife having a straight edge or similar object (e.g. single-edge razor blade). Take care that while doing this the paint surface between the characters is not damaged.
4. If the result is not satisfactory it is recommended that the remaining paint is removed with a suitable paint remover. Thoroughly dry the labels and then reapply fresh paint. Repeat the removal of the paint from the surface of the characters after the new paint is completely dry.
5. Carefully extract the different labels from their etching frames and remove any remaining burrs.
6. Attach the etched labels with very small amounts of adhesive on top of the printed signs on the vehicle.
