ABD-Z2 Automatic Balancing Damper
ABD-Z2 Automatic Balancing Damper for Zone Register
Terminals
General Information
The ABD-Z2 Automatic Balancing Damper is designed for use in
zone register terminals to provide accurate and reliable air flow
control. This damper helps to balance the air flow in HVAC systems,
ensuring that each zone receives the correct amount of air flow.
The ABD-Z2 is easy to install and maintain, and comes with a
detailed installation, operation, and maintenance manual.
Electrical Guidelines
All wiring for the ABD-Z2 must be done in accordance with the
National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA-70 latest edition, any local
codes that may apply, and wiring diagrams developed in compliance
with the job or project design and specifications. Electrical input
may be needed for this equipment, and should only be performed by a
qualified electrician. To avoid causing damage or harm to building
occupants, follow all instructions carefully.
Setting Desired CFM on the ABD Damper
The ABD-Z2 comes with adjustable CFM setpoints to allow for
precise air flow control. The setpoints available for the ABD-Z2 4
inch model are shown in Figure 3. Use the primary linkage location
for units with a minimum CFM less than 75, and the alternate
linkage location for units with a minimum CFM of 75 or more. For
the ABD-Z2 6 inch model, use the primary linkage location for units
with a minimum CFM less than 105, and the alternate linkage
location for units with a minimum CFM of 105 or more. Adjust the
wing nut on the crankarm to set the desired CFM.
Mounting the ABD-Z2 in the Ceiling
The ABD-Z2 should be mounted in the ceiling of the zone register
terminal. Follow the instructions provided in the installation
manual for proper mounting.
Actuator Connections
The actuator on the ABD-Z2 should be connected according to the
wiring diagram provided in the installation manual. Verify power
before wiring the actuator, and ensure that all connections are
secure.
Damper Maintenance
The ABD-Z2 is designed for easy maintenance. Regular inspections
and cleaning can help to ensure reliable operation. Refer to the
maintenance section of the installation manual for detailed
instructions on proper maintenance procedures.
Remember to read and save these instructions for future
reference. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in
voiding of the product warranty and may result in personal injury
and/or property damage.

Receiving and Handling
Upon receiving dampers, check for both obvious and hidden damage. If damage is found, record all necessary information on the bill of lading and file a claim with the final carrier. Check to be sure that all parts of the shipment, including accessories, are accounted for.
Dampers must be kept dry and clean. Indoor storage and protection from dirt, dust and the weather is highly recommended. Do not store at temperatures in excess of 100°F (38°C).
Safety Warning
Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can cause property damage, injury or death. Read the installation, operating, and maintenance instructions thoroughly before installing or servicing this equipment.
This manual is the property of the owner and is required for future maintenance. Please leave it with the owner when the job is complete.

Electrical Guidelines
All wiring shall be done in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA-70 latest edition, any local codes that may apply, and wiring diagrams developed in compliance with the job or project design and specifications.
Important!
Electrical input may be needed for this equipment. This work should be performed by a qualified electrician. Verify power before wiring actuator. Greenheck is not responsible for any damage to, or failure of the unit caused by incorrect field wiring. To avoid causing death or serious bodily harm to building occupants, follow all instructions carefully. Dampers must close completely to preserve the integrity of the fire smoke separation.
Setting Desired CFM on the ABD Damper
Verify the minimum and maximum setpoints are in the available range (see Figure 3 and 4). Adjusting the Minimum CFM Loosen the bolt to adjust to move drive link to primary or alternate linkage location. See Detail A for correct linkage location. Adjusting the Maximum CFM How the maximum CFM adjusted. Loosen the wing nut on crank arm, adjust full-open stop clockwise until specified maximum CFM setpoint is achieved. Tighten wing nut. Note: ABD-Z2 is adjustable in the field. Make sure full open stop does not over travel. If you over adjust, you can
wreck the unit.

Damper Maintenance
Dampers do not typically require maintenance as long as they are kept dry and clean. If cleaning is necessary, wash with water. No solvents should be used in cleaning, as they could damage the valve or gasket. In addition, ABD dampers incorporate Steri-BalanceTM into all plastic components. Steri-BalanceTM is a non-caustic material that inhibits antimicrobial growth.
