Care and Cleaning:
The thermometer should be cleaned and disinfected after each
use. To clean the thermometer, wipe it with a soft cloth or cotton
swab moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol. DO NOT use soap or water
to clean the thermometer. NEVER immerse the thermometer into water
or other liquids. Allow the thermometer to air dry before storing
it in a safe place.
Product Usage Instructions:
- Remove the protective scanner cap from the thermometer.
- Press the power button to turn on the thermometer.
- Wait for the self-test to complete and the LCD screen to
display “0.0”. - Press the temperature button to take a measurement.
- Hold the thermometer about 1 inch away from the center of the
forehead and aim it at the forehead. - Press and hold the temperature button while slowly moving the
thermometer across the forehead to the temple and back. - Release the temperature button and read the temperature on the
LCD screen. - Turn off the thermometer by pressing the power button.
- Replace the protective scanner cap on the thermometer.

Indications for Use / Intended Use
The Braun SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer is a non-sterile, reusable, clinical thermometer intended for the intermittent determination of human body temperature on people of all ages in a home use environment.
Warnings and Precautions
Keep out of reach of children under 12 years.
NEVER use the thermometer for purposes other than those it has been intended for. Please follow the general safety precautions when using on children.
NEVER immerse the SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer into water or other liquids (not waterproof ). For cleaning and disinfecting please follow the instructions in the “Care and cleaning” section.
DO NOT store this thermometer in temperature extremes below -13 °F or over 131 °F (below -25 °C or over 55 °C) or in excessive humidity (up to 95% noncondensing relative humidity).
DO NOT use the thermometer if there are signs of damage on the measuring sensor or on the instrument itself. If damaged, DO NOT attempt to repair the instrument! Please contact our Consumer Relations Department at: 1-800-327-7226.

· Neonates and infants under 3 months (Consult your physician immediately if the temperature exceeds 99.4 °F [37.4 °C])
· Individuals over 60 years of age (Fever may be blunted or even absent in elderly Individuals) · Individuals having diabetes mellitus or a weakened immune system (e.g., HIV positive, cancer
chemotherapy, chronic immunosuppressant treatment, splenectomy) · Individuals who are bedridden due to stroke, chronic illness, surgical recovery, paraplegia,
quadriplegia. · A transplant recipient (e.g., liver, heart, lung, kidney) It is important to know each individual’s normal temperature when they are well. This is the only way to accurately diagnose a fever. Take multiple readings when healthy to determine normal temperature.

This thermometer is not intended for pre-term babies or small-for-gestational age newborn (birth to 4 weeks of age) babies. Pre-term is defined as babies born before 37 weeks of gestation. Small-for-gestational-age is defined as a newborn baby, born at 37 weeks or later, with a weight below the 10th percentile for newborn babies of the same gestational age.

How the Braun SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer works
The SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer measures infrared energy radiated from the skin above the eyebrow area, the temple, and the surrounding tissue. Temperature readings obtained by scanning the temple area will provide the greatest accuracy.
The SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer has been clinically tested and proven to be safe and accurate when used in accordance with its operating instruction manual.
Normal temperature is a range. The range of normal also varies from person to person and fluctuates throughout the day. It is, therefore, important to determine your normal temperature range.
The best way to determine your normal temperature range is to use the thermometer when feeling well. Record readings twice a day (early morning and late afternoon). Take the average of the two temperatures to calculate normal oral equivalent temperature.
A child’s normal temperature can be as high as 99.9°F or as low as 97.0°F. Remeasure with a standard digital thermometer for confirmation, especially on infants.

Color-coded fever guidance Fever guidance helps you to better understand the meaning of your child’s temperature with the color indicated on the display. The screen displays green for a normal temperature, yellow for a fever, and red for a high fever.

How to use your Braun SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer
First time use Insert 2 AAA batteries (see page 8 for instructions).
Remove 98.6 °F label from display.
1 Power on
Remove protective cap. Press and release the power button once. Backlight will come on and the warm up sequence starts.
The last reading is automatically displayed for 2 seconds.
When device displays STEADY “00.0” on the screen, it is ready to take a measurement.
2 Position
Place the thermometer against the skin, on the forehead just above the eyebrow. Be sure to hold the thermometer flush against the forehead. NOTE: ALWAYS remove the protective scanner cap before taking a temperature reading.
3 Take temperature
Press the”Temperature button”and slowly swipe diagonally down the forehead to the temple and then back. Be sure to hold the thermometer flush against the forehead for the duration of the measurement. When the temperature button is pressed a dashed line will appear on the screen and a soft beeping is heard to let you know the thermometer is working. DO NOT remove the thermometer from the forehead until you hear the long, 2-second confirmation beep.

Temperature taking hints
Before having temperature measured, individuals should be indoors for at least 30 minutes.
Hold the thermometer flush against the forehead and swipe slowly from above the eyebrow down to the temple, and back again. Swiping too slow or too fast may impact your reading.
DO NOT remove the thermometer from the forehead before hearing the final beep.
Nursing mothers should not take a temperature measurement on themselves or have their temperature measured by another individual while or immediately after nursing a baby, as nursing can affect body temperature.
DO NOT use the SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer in high humidity environments.
Individuals should not drink, eat, or be physically active before/while taking the measurement.
Before placing the thermometer sensor onto the forehead, remove dirt, hair, or sweat.
Remove blankets and pillows away from the head and face prior measurement.
Use an alcohol swab to carefully clean the sensor and wait for 5 minutes before taking a measurement on another Individual. Wiping the forehead with a warm or cool cloth may impact your reading. It is advised to wait 15 minutes before taking a reading.
ALWAYS take the temperature in the same location, since the temperature readings may vary from different locations on the forehead.
In the following situations, it is recommended that three temperatures be taken and the highest one used as the reading:
· Infants within the first 100 days of their birth.
· Children under three years of age with a compromised immune system and for whom the presence or absence of fever is critical.
· When the user is learning how to use the thermometer for the first time until he/she has familiarized himself/herself with the instrument and obtains consistent readings.
Memory mode
The Braun SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer includes a memory feature to recall the last temperature reading. The last temperature taken is stored in its memory and will be automatically displayed for 2 seconds when it is turned on.

How to change temperature between °F and °C and How to mute.
This thermometer has the ability to switch temperature units from Fahrenheit to Celsius, as well the ability to mute the device. When the device is in mute mode, all audible sounds will be disabled. The mute icon will be displayed on the LCD at all times when the device is in mute mode.
1 While the device is off, press and hold the button for
6 seconds until SET appears on the screen.
2 Release the measurement button when the desired temperature scale
and mute option are shown. The selected icons will flash on the screen to confirm the new setting, then the thermometer will turn off automatically.
Calibration
The thermometer is initially calibrated at the time of manufacture. If this thermometer is used according to the use instructions, periodic re-adjustment is not required. If at any time you question the accuracy of temperature measurements, please contact Consumer Relations.
Care and cleaning
Use an alcohol swab or cotton swab moistened with alcohol (70% Isopropyl) to clean the thermometer casing and the measuring probe. Ensure that no liquid enters the interior of the thermometer. NEVER use abrasive cleaning agents, thinners or benzene for cleaning and NEVER immerse the instrument in water or other cleaning liquids. Take care not to scratch the surface of the lens by replacing the protective cap after use.
Replacing the batteries
The SensianTM Swipe 5 Thermometer comes with 2 AAA batteries. To install the batteries, slide open the battery door as shown. Insert 2 AAA batteries, correctly positioning with positive “+” and negative “-” as shown. Replace the battery door and close securely. Replace the batteries when the flashing battery symbol appears on the LCD screen. Dispose of batteries according to local waste management directions. Do not mix alkaline, standard, or rechargeable batteries. To protect the environment, dispose of empty batteries at appropriate collection sites according to national or local regulations. Keep out of reach of young children, elderly, and pets.

A”Err”sign appears when the temperature measured is BELOW 93.2 °F or 34 ºC.
The mark”Err”appears if the operating temperature is ABOVE 108 °F or 42.2 ºC.
When you receive this symbol, press the power button to reset the thermometer before taking a new measurement.
When ambient temperature is too high or too low to take an accurate reading, device will provide an”Err” message with flashing up/down arrow icon. The error message will appear after start up and memory recall.
When you receive this symbol, press the power button to reset the thermometer before taking a new measurement. If the ambient temperature is not within the allowed range of 59 ºF – 104.0 ºF (15 ºC – 40 ºC), you will not be able to take a reading.
Low battery When 20% of battery life is left, the display FLASHES the low battery warning symbol, however, the device can still work until the battery life has 0% left.

Dead battery indication If the steady battery icon is the only symbol shown on the display, the device cannot work.

El Termómetro SensianTM Swipe 5 mide la energía infrarroja irradiada de la piel por encima del área de la ceja, la sien y el tejido circundante. Las lecturas de la temperatura obtenidas al escanear el área de la sien proporcionarán la mayor precisión.

3 Toma de la temperatura
Presione el “botón de Temperatura” y deslice lentamente en forma diagonal bajando por la frente hasta la sien y luego de regreso. Asegúrese de mantener el termómetro al ras contra la frente durante la medición.
Cuando se presiona el botón de temperatura aparecerá en la pantalla una línea punteada y se escuchará un suave pitido para hacerle saber que el termómetro está funcionando. NO retire el termómetro de la frente hasta que escuche el pitido de confirmación largo de 2 segundos.
4 Lectura de la temperatura
En el pitido de confirmación, retire el termómetro de la frente y lea la temperatura. La pantalla iluminará el color apropiado para la lectura de la temperatura. Verde para temperatura normal, amarillo para fiebre, y rojo para fiebre alta.

5 Apagar
Presione el botón de encendido. Para conservar la energía de la pila, la unidad se apagará automáticamente después de 60 segundos sin uso.
Consejos de toma de temperatura
El individuo debe estar en interiores durante 30 minutos antes de tomar la medición.
Sostenga el termómetro al ras contra la frente y deslice lentamente desde arriba de la ceja bajando hasta la sien, y de regreso. Deslizar demasiado lento o demasiado rápido puede afectar la lectura.
NO retire el termómetro de la frente hasta escuchar el pitido final.
Las madres lactantes no deben tomar una medición de temperatura en sí mismas o que otro individuo les realice la medición de temperatura mientras o inmeditamente después de amamantar a un bebé, ya que la lactancia puede afectar la temperatura corporal.
NO use el Termómetro SensianTM Swipe 5 en ambientes de alta humedad.
Los pacientes no deben beber, comer, o estar físicamente activos antes/durante la medición.
Antes de colocar el sensor del termómetro en la frente, retire la suciedad, cabellos o sudor.
Use un hisopo con alcohol para limpiar cuidadosamente el sensor y espere 5 minutos antes de tomar una medición en otro paciente. Limpiar la frente con un paño tibio o frío puede afectar la lectura. Se aconseja esperar 15 minutos antes de tomar una lectura.
SIEMPRE tome la temperatura en el mismo lugar, ya que las lecturas de temperatura pueden variar de diferentes lugares de la frente.
En las siguientes situaciones se recomienda que se tomen tres temperaturas en el mismo lugar y se tome la más alta como la lectura:
· Bebés dentro de los primeros 100 días de su nacimiento.
· Niños menores de tres años de edad con un sistema inmunológico débil y para quienes la presencia de ausencia de fiebre es crítica.
· Cuando el usuario está aprendiendo a usar el termómetro por primera vez y hasta que se familiarice con el instrumento y obtenga lecturas constantes.

Modo de memoria
El Termómetro Braun SensianTM Swipe 5 incluye una función de memoria para recordar la última lectura de temperatura. La última temperatura tomada se almacena en su memoria y se mostrará automáticamente durante 2 segundos cuando se vuelva a encender.
Cómo cambiar la temperatura entre °F y °C y Cómo silenciar.
Este termómetro tiene la capacidad de cambiar las unidades de temperatura de Fahrenheit a Celsius, así como la capacidad de silenciar el dispositivo. Cuando el dispositivo está en modo de silencio, todos los sonidos audibles se desactivarán. El ícono de silencio se mostrará en la pantalla LCD en todo momento cuando el dispositivo esté en modo de silencio.

Calibración

Cuidado y limpieza
Utilice un hisopo con alcohol (isopropílico al 70%) para limpiar la carcasa exterior del termómetro y la sonda de medición. Asegúrese de que ningún líquido entre en el interior del termómetro. NUNCA utilice limpiadores abrasivos, disolventes o benceno para limpiar y NUNCA sumerja el instrumento en agua u otros líquidos de limpieza. Tenga cuidado de no rayar la superficie de la lente al volver a colocar la tapa protector después de su uso.
Cambio de pilas
El Termómetro SensianTM Swipe 5 viene con 2 pilas AAA.
Para instalar las pilas, deslice la tapa del compartimiento de pilas para abrir como se muestra. Inserte 2 pilas AAA, colocándolas correctamente con positivo “+” y negativo “-” como se muestra. Vuelva a colocar la tapa de las pilas y cierre bien.
Cambie las pilas cuando aparezca el símbolo de pila parpadeando en la pantalla LCD. Deseche las pilas de acuerdo a las instrucciones locales de manejo de residuos.
No mezcle pilas alcalinas, estándar o recargables.
Para proteger el medio ambiente, deseche las pilas vacías en los sitios de recolección apropiados de acuerdo con las regulaciones nacionales o locales. Mantenga fuera del alcance de niños pequeños, adultos mayores y mascotas.

Cuando la temperatura ambiente es demasiado alta o demasiado baja para tomar una lectura exacta, el dispositivo proporcionará un mensaje “Err”con el ícono de flecha hacia arriba/abajo parpadeando. Aparecerá el mensaje de error y después del arranque y la recuperación de memoria.
Cuando reciba este símbolo, presione el botón de encendido para reiniciar el termómetro antes de tomar una nueva medida. Si la temperatura ambiente no está dentro del rango permitido de 15 ºC – 40 ºC (59 ºF – 104.0 ºF) , no será capaz de tomar una lectura.
Pila baja Cuando queda el 20% de la vida de la pila, la pantalla PARPADEARÁ el símbolo de pila baja, sin embargo, el dispositivo puede funcionar hasta que la pila tenga 0% de carga.
