D40932 Root Watering System
Product Information
The Rain Bird Root Watering System (RWS) is a specialized
irrigation system designed to deliver water, air, and nutrients
effectively to the root system of trees and shrubs. It consists of
a perforated polyethylene cylinder with 14,000 openings. The RWS is
available in three sizes: 36, 18, and 10. It can be easily
connected to irrigation lateral lines or installed in drip
zones.
Benefits of the Rain Bird RWS include:
- Easy installation in just three simple steps
- Provides essential water, air, and nutrients directly to the
root system - Compatible with various soil types
- Helps promote healthy growth and development of trees and
shrubs
Product Usage Instructions
- Dig a hole and insert the tree or shrub before installing the
RWS to avoid damaging the units. - Ensure that the top of the RWS is even with the ground
surface. - Keep the RWS on its own irrigation zone.
RWS Installation Steps:
Step 1: Select the correct RWS product
Choose a bubbler flow rate appropriate for your soil type.
Step 2: Determine the number of units per tree/shrub
The size of the root ball will determine the correct quantity of
RWS units. Refer to the following guidelines:
| Root Ball Diameter | RWS Size | Number of RWS Units |
|---|---|---|
| Greater than 36 inches | 36 | 3 or more RWS units per tree |
| Less than 12 inches | 18 | 2 RWS-M units per tree/shrub |
| Less than 12 inches | 10 | 2 RWS-S units per shrub |
Note: If the root balls are less than 12 inches apart, use 1
RWS-S unit between each root ball. For isolated shrubs, use 2 RWS-S
units equally spaced around the root ball.
Step 3: Space the RWS units relative to the root ball
The positioning of the RWS units should be determined based on
the size of the root ball:
- LARGE TO MEDIUM TREES: Equally space the RWS units around the
root ball with no more than 30 inches between each unit. - SMALL TREES & LARGE SHRUBS: Equally space the RWS units
around the root ball. - SHRUBS & SMALL TREES (Dense Plantings): Use 1 RWS-S unit
between each plant.
