Before starting the device read the instruction booklet carefully!
General information
- Incorrect handling may lead to injury.
- Do not enter into or disturb the machine area during active operation.
- The machine must always be secured so that unauthorised persons are unable to reach the machine.
- Any damaged or defective components must only be replaced with original parts.
- All moving parts must be greased periodically and/or at the end of the season.
- The on/off valve part must always be open during storage.
- At the end of the season, the device must be stored in a weather and frost-resistant manner.
Approved use and usage restrictions
LEADER reel irrigators are designed for irrigating green spaces in park and sports facilities, cultivated areas in agriculture, riding grounds and golf courses. They are powered by a water turbine, which is driven by pressure from the available water supply. The stated minimum and maximum pressure must be observed. When using the machine and retracting the hose, ensure that no people or animals are able to enter the feed area of the machine. It must also be ensured that any water provided by the sprinkler is not conveyed onto water-sensitive substances or electrical wires/ equipment in any part of the irrigation area (length and width). Please take into account the throwing range of the sprinkler.

*Models from LEADER 32 upwards are fitted with automatic hose guidance for hose retraction.
**Pressure data refer to the applied water pressure directly in front of the irrigation trolley. A possible pressure loss during the supply line must be taken into account accordingly. The pump must have a delivery capacity (in litres) that is at least in the middle range of the specifications.

Assembling the LEADER
The LEADERr 50 / 63 must be assembled correctly before starting up.
Assembling the sector sprinkler
This is screwed onto the sprinkler trolley.
Assembling the hoses / connecting the hoses
In order to provide a functional flow of water, the reel irrigator must be connected to the sprinkler trolley.
The hose clip provided is used for fixing.
The track width of the sprinkler trolley is adjustable:
Setting the sprinkler trolley
| Track width min | 100 cm |
| Track width max. | 175 cm |
Simply loosen the screws underneath.
The clearance height is 75 cm.
Starting the LEADER
First place the device at the beginning of the area to be sprinkled. Ensure that the supports are anchored firmly in the ground (fig. 1) and that the steering drawbar is fixed (fig. 2).
Disconnecting the turbine in neutral position
To disconnect the turbine, remove the securing hook (fig. 3) and then disengage the turbine (fig. 4).
Extracting the hose
Pull the hose out perpendicular to the machine and leave a couple of complete windings on the hose reel.
Check that the hose remaining on the reel fits tightly and evenly on the reel and is under slight tension. (fig 5).
Attention: Insufficient tension can damage the hose when it is being retracted.
Attention: The turbine must first be unlocked (neutral position) before the hose is rolled out.
Connecting the turbine in operating position
The securing hook must be hooked back on (fig. 6).
The gearwheels of the water turbine and hose reel must engage firmly with each other.
The turbine is then engaged (fig. 7).
Opening the automatic shut-off
Lock the activation handle on the front of the hose trolley by hanging the bolt on the water stop valve (fig. 8).
The valve is now open pending activation via the sprinkler trolley.
Attention: The water supply should NOT be opened when doing this.
This closes the valve and the water supply is interrupted. Sprinkling is now terminated.
Preparing the water supply and starting the sprinkling process
Now connect the available water supply with the LEADER (fig. 9).
Tip: The diameter of the supply hose should always be one hose size larger than the hose on the reel irrigator (see technical data, chapter. 3).
The sprinkling process starts and the sprinkler trolley is pulled in by the hose.
Water pressure: min. 3bar – max. 5,5bar
The speed of the sprinkler may be adjusted continuously. A swivel valve (fig. 10) is located on the water turbine for this purpose:
Turn off valve = slower = intensive sprinkling
Open valve = quicker = reduced sprinkling
The circular movement of the sector sprinkler can be adjusted as required. The spray jet can be “interrupted” as required using the adjusting screw (see chapter: Setting the sector sprinkler).
When the sprinkling is completed, the sprinkler trolley activates the automatic shut-off by pushing the activation handle on the front of the hose reel upwards (fig. 11).
This closes the valve and the water supply is interrupted. Sprinkling is now terminated.
Setting the sector sprinkler
The circular movement of the sector sprinkler can be adjusted as required. The spray jet can be “interrupted” as required using the adjusting screw.
The further the screw is rotated inwards, the greater the disruption to the water jet.
Please make sure that the clips are pushed all the way up.
The irrigation area can be adjusted appropriately using the brackets.
hose length and water ejection range = length of irrigation area
Troubleshooting
Problem: Throw / speed of sprinkler / flow per hour is too low.
1. Check whether the working pressure / water flow corresponds to the specified values (p.table). If pump is present, check the information on the type plate.
- For this purpose, attach a pressure gauge to the unit.
- If the distance to the water tapping is too great, the existing pressure / the water quantity will drop.
Recommendation: Always choose a connection hose one size larger than the hose on the LEADER.

2. Bypass is completely open.
- The bypass must not be more than 50% open, otherwise sufficient pressure will not be built up in the system.

4. Line is blocked, possibly by dirt or foreign objects.
- Check the turbine at the turbine inlet (picture a).

- Check hose connection (picture b).

- Check the sprinkler carriage (picture c).
Start the LEADER without the sprinkler mounted on the sprinkler carriage. The foreign object will then be transported upwards by the built-up pressure. - Check the sprinkler (picture. d), e.g. by unscrewing the nozzle (picture e).

- Optional: Check the pre-filter (accessory).

Problem: LEADER does not switch off.
1. Valve is leaking.
- Check seal (picture a +b).

- Screw / cutting ring leaking, tighten if necessary (picture c).

Problem: Incorrect winding of the hose and resulting blocking of the hose reel.
- Always run the hose under tension on the drum.
- Adjust the return brake when pulling out the hose.
Problem: Damage to the turbine.
- Turbine must always be disengaged when unrolling the hose.
The illustrations may differ for the different LEADER models.
