The phones’ overall frequency response ranges from 5 Hz to 35 kHz, resulting in a rich and immersive sound for everything from classical music to hip-hop and expensive movie soundtracks. With a single-sided cable, replaceable soft ear pads, and a padded headband, the DT 880 headphones are also quite comfortable during prolonged listening sessions. APPLICATIONS

The DT 880 combines the advantages of open headphones with those of closed studio headphones. The improved systems of the legendary DT 880 provide a high-quality studio headphone with excellent analytical properties, especially for classical music. The balanced reduction of environmental noise guarantees a perfect spherical sound, while the complete sound spectrum is reproduced in great detail from the lowest sub-bass up to the highest frequencies. The higher frequencies are crystal-clear without being unpleasant and impress with a very smooth sound. The precise balanced mid frequencies are analytical and supportive, without being predominant. The bass is voluminous without being too obtrusive. The newly designed headband fits all head sizes and grants better wearing comfort, especially during long studio sessions.

The iconic model of high-end headphones

The DT 880 Edition is a staple among Beyerdynamic’s high-end headphones. Its great spacious reproduction and natural, energetic sound are enjoyed by music fans. The DT 880 Edition reduces background noise but does not entirely block it out, providing a pleasing audio experience. Since they have been a part of the Beyerdynamic lineup for 20 years, these headphones continue to be extremely well-liked. The DT 880 Edition is a dependable friend for many years to come because all of its parts are readily available as replacements.

The ambiance of a concert at home

The DT 880 Edition has a very calm, neutral tone. While without being overdone, the bass reproduction cuts through fairly profoundly. Because it gives the headphones a highly transparent sound and clearly audible individual musical elements, this feature is especially appealing to fans of jazz and classical music. The DT 880 Edition’s semi-open design allows some ambient noise to enter and exit while attenuating it slightly more effective than a fully open headset like the DT 990 Edition.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I have heard that DT880 is not tight enough to fit people with small heads. Being loose, it may keep falling off while listening. Is it true?
I have a giant, fat head (for housing a very large brain) and these fit nicely, so they may indeed fit loosely for people with smaller brains… I mean heads.
  • Can these block out loud conversation and music and how bad do they leak sound?
No, these do not block out much sound & also leak sound. Cannot be used in an open office.
  • How do these compare to the Sennheiser HD 598?
These are gonna be much brighter. The HD 598’s are kind of warm. These are stark neutral.
  • DT880 Premium (250 Ohm) in comparison with DT250 (250 Ohm), what will be better in sound quality (I like neutral sound) and comfort wearing?
The dt250 is smoother in the highs but both are very neutral and dt880 is extremely comfortable.
  • How sharp are they?
Not sure what you mean by “sharp”. I find them to be neutral, not nail on the blackboard treble, but not dull. I find them accurate. I have not heard reference level cans, but as a previous owner of Thiel speakers, I find them more than satisfactory when I can’t listen to my speakers.
  • How are these for Video Editing and Gaming?
These are high-resistance open headphones, and not suitable for gaming, and require a strong amplifier for these to give you an open, clear transparent sound signature.
  • I have a Fiio E17k. Will that be adequate to power these.?
Thanks for your question. Although it is at the top end of the manufacturer’s specification for drive capability, you should be fine. This will be a fine-sounding pairing. This is a fantastic-sounding headphone. World Wide Stereo is 36 years old and a very proud Beyerdymanic dealer.
  • I have to play at full volume. Is it maybe not 32 ohms?
The higher the impedance i.e. the higher the ohms, the harder you have to drive the headphones. 600 ohms will sound quieter than 32 ohms. the 32 ohms are designed for media players etc.
  • Do any Beyerdynamics have a shorter cord?
I’ve never seen a cord under 6 feet.
  • Does it have a detachable cable?
The cable is not detachable. One of the company reps emailed me with instructions on how to replace it if needed. Detachable would be better though.
  • I plan to use this for music production, plugged into an audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 6i6). Should go for the 600-ohm version?
Not sure how powerful the 6i6’s headphone amp is, but the 250Ω version is great for music production. The 250Ω and 32Ω should both be a bit brighter than the 600Ω version.
  • I am going to use a mod mic 4.0 along with these headphones. Is the noise leak a problem? I don’t want my mic to pick up anything from the headphones.
These are open headphones, so yes they’ll leak a lot. if you need sound isolation then go with a closed headphone like the dt770 or dt1770 instead.
