FAQS

What size is the inside measurements of the ear muff, and where ear goes??

2 3/4″ long and 1 3/4″ wide. Oval shaped

What type of ear pads do this pair of can have?

soft like cashmere very comfortable.

Why do the black ones cost twice as much?

That is because that is a random place that is selling them. Don’t buy them.

Do the ear cups twist to better fit in a travel bag?

No the ear cups rotate slightly but not by much. They are open back and seem huge as the cup covers an area much larger than my ear. The sound is good but they are big headphones, not really suitable for a portable lifestyle.

Are the earpads removable?

Yes, they’re removable and replaceable.

Do these have a built-in mic?

No, these headphones do not have a built-in mic.

Do these headphones have surround sound capability?

As standalone headphones no, but with an external surround sound unit such as the Sennheiser GSX1000 they do and it’s actually very good.

what is the frequency response?

Careful with confusing the company that engineers this kind of product with the locations where the components are manufactured; companies love to stir up more uncertainty by listing that the parts were made in China but assembled in their home country. The important part here is that Sennheiser is known for not only great engineering but the quality control that keeps the differences in quality less drastic. Sennheiser is a company that takes pride in their “German-Engineering Cred” so it would be a great oversight not to apply pressur to cull out the time-bomb displays from the Chinese manufacturer.

Does the wire disconnect from the headphones? If the wire is damaged, can it be removed and replaced easily?

12- 38,500 Hz

What is the impedance rating (in OHMs) of these headphones?

Yes and yes. It uses a 2.5mm jack internally, at least to my eyes, and locks in place with a twisting motion. To remove the cable, twist the other way, then unplug. It comes with two cables in the box, a thin one that ends in a 3.5mm jack for phones, and a thicker one that ends in a full size TRS for studio/audiophile-grade equipment. In addition, there is a full-size to 3.5mm converter included in case you need to use the thicker cable with your phone. The cable plug into the headphones is very recessed, and there’s also the twisting mechanism to consider, so I’m not sure it’d be easy to replace with any generic thing. Sennheiser does sell replacement cables, though, and there’s always the crazy cable audiophile community, that makes their cables out of different materials like gold so that their headphones sound better. They always have a good aftermarket for Sennheiser cables, even if their prices get a little crazy.

How is this for a gamer?

50 ohms. You can drive them well with an iPad or other mobile devices. They sound better through an amp but still sound great when using a mobile device.

For a small head?

Yep it should fit

How does this compare to the sony mdr 7506? what is the difference between the standard and the special edition model besides the color?

To my ear, the Sony MDR-series headphones are outstanding, especially given their low prices. By comparison, the Sennheiser HD 599 sounds muddy and vague. I bought the HD 599s because my Sony headphones were hurting my ears after many hours of listening. The HD 599s are much more comfortable. Also be aware that the HD 599s have “open backs”, and therefore leak a little sound. Not good for sitting next to someone who doesn’t want to hear you, but fine if you’re in a separate room.

Are the two 599s listed on Amazon exactly the same internally?

Excellent build quality & tone sound reception.

Why does it have 2 cables?

One cable is for the larger 1/4 inch headphone jack that most audio receivers use and one is for the 3.5 mm audio jack that laptops, some phones, and tablets use for audio output.
