NOD-1 Overdrive Guitar Effect Pedal
One of the most wanted overdrive and distortion pedals produced in mid 90’s is now in one pedal with pocket size. NUX Horseman is a homage of the legendary centaur pedal. Horseman offers a lot of sound that normally you can get from two pedals. There are 3 dials up for primary settings and 2 modes called Gold and Silver. Gold mode is the mimic of the classic gold centaur overdrive pedal, and the Silver mode is a powered version with an extended gain range (silver centaur).
The unique characteristic design of the transparant overdrive pedal is voltage converter driving 18 volts to the OP-AMP which is the core of the circuit. At this voltage the response is different than 9 volt, since its slew rate depends on the voltage supply. The higher voltage supply, the higher order of harmonics, the OP-AMP will generate, and the more “metallic” sound.
Depending on the settings of the control knobs, the pedal can act mostly as a clean boost, adding mostly volume and minimal coloring to the sound. This can be used to drive the input valve stage of the amplifier to use the characteristic distortion sound of an overdriven guitar amp. Alternatively ( or additionally) the controls can perform waveform clipping. (Cause the germanium diodes are discontinued, we especially select the Schottky diodes to replicate the waveform clipping.) The “gain” knob is a double potentiometer ( a “dual-ganged gain pot” ), which controls bass and middle frequencies. Other knobs are treble and volume.
Another advantage of the Horseman is, it has optional True Bypass / Buffer Bypass modes for running the pedal. Push and hold the footswitch and power up the pedal to select True (Red LED indicator) or Buffer (Green LED indicator) bypass mode.
