Product Information

The GSARTM, or Government Search and Rescue Manual, is a
Swiss-made and Canadian-designed watch under the Marathon brand. It
is a wristwatch with a dive rating of 30ATM, suitable for
underwater search and rescue operations. The watch features a 41mm
case diameter, 14mm case thickness, 48mm lug to lug distance, and
20mm drilled lug width. The bezel is marked with MaraGloTM tritium
hour markers, while the hour, minute, and seconds hands also have
tritium tubes for constant illumination. The bezel is
uni-directional with a 60-minute scale range. The watch also has a
screw-down crown, date display, and 20mm lugs. The GSAR watch uses
self-contained tritium gas tubes that are self-illuminating and
will not dull over time.

Product Usage Instructions

1. Priming the movement: The GSAR watch is charged via the
   movement of your wrist. Gently move your watch back and forth to
   charge up the movement. Avoid hand-winding whenever possible as it
   could cause damage to the movement.
2. Clean watch often: Clean regularly using rubbing alcohol, a
   toothbrush, and a microfiber cloth.
3. Always set it forward: During daylight-savings, move the hands
   forward to reach your desired time setting instead of winding the
   watch back an hour to avoid undue stress on the movement.
4. Service regularly: Regular servicing every four to six years
   will help keep your movement running precisely. For servicing

GOVERNMENT SEARCH AND RESCUE (GSAR)
Marathon Search and Rescue (SAR) watches were developed to Canadian Government requirements for use in SAR operations. Built to withstand extreme conditions and match the capabilities of the user. First introduced in the early 1990s, they are still in active use today.
Commonly known as the Government Search and Rescue (GSAR). The GSAR is the most storied and venerable of our SAR Class of watches. It is highly sought after from both warfighters and collectors alike.

TRITIUM GAS TUBES
The GSAR uses self-contained tritium gas tubes to ensure constant visibility in low light situations. A gas tube is placed on each hour marker and hand. These tubes are self-illuminating and contain an isotope of hydrogen, that will not dull down over time like photo-luminescent paint.

WATER RESISTANCE
The GSAR is made from 316L surgical-grade stainless-steel with a screwdown crown and a synthetic sapphire crystal that allow it to operate while submerged down to 300 meters or 1000 feet underwater.

For over 80 years Marathon has used Incabloc® shock absorbers to protect the Marathon engine. This watch combines Military toughness with Swiss craftsmanship in a watch that will get the job done, and look good doing it.

GENERAL OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Do not adjust the date wheel between 9pm and 3am as this may damage the watch movement.

The crown must be screwed down in position 1 for optimal water-resistance.

LOCKING THE CROWN
From position 2, push the crown into position 1 and rotate clockwise to lock the crown back into place.
NOTE: The GSAR was designed to automatically hand-wind the watch while screwing in the crown. Avoid hand-winding where necessary as this could cause damage to the movement.

Rotate bezel counterclockwise, aligning the 12 o’clock bezel marker with the minute hand to set a starting time.

TIMING BEZEL
1. Rotate your bezel counterclockwise and align the 12 o’clock bezel marker with the minute hand. This will set your start time.
2. Measure the minute hand against the bezel markers to count the elapsed time.
NOTE: When diving, use your dive watch as a support device alongside the recommended diving tools suggested by PADI or BSAC.

TUBES DE GAZ TRITIUM
La GSAR utilise des tubes à gaz tritium autonomes pour assurer une visibilité constante dans les situations de faible luminosité. Un tube à gaz est placé sur chaque marqueur horaire et sur chaque aiguille. Ces tubes sont autoéclairants et contiennent un isotope d’hydrogène, qui ne ternira pas avec le temps comme le fait la peinture photoluminescente.

OPÉRATIONS GÉNÉRALES & ENTRETIEN
1. Amorçage du mouvement Votre GSAR se charge grâce au mouvement de votre poignet. Après l’avoir sortie de la boîte, remuez doucement votre montre d’avant en arrière pour charger le mouvement. Évitez le remontage manuel si nécessaire, car cela pourrait endommager le mouvement.
2. Nettoyer fréquemment la montre. Nettoyez régulièrement avec de l’alcool à friction, une brosse à dents et un chiffon en microfibre.

3. Toujours régler en avance. Lors d’événements tels que les changements d’heure, vous pourriez vouloir remonter votre montre d’une heure, mais cela peut mettre une tension excessive sur le mouvement de votre montre. Avancez toujours les aiguilles pour atteindre l’heure souhaitée.

La couronne doit être complètement vissée en position 1 pour une étanchéité optimale.

VERROUILLAGE DE LA COURONNE
En position 2, poussez la couronne en position 1 et tournez dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre pour verrouiller la couronne à nouveau en place.
REMARQUE : La montre GSAR a été conçue pour pouvoir la remonter automatiquement à la main tout en vissant la couronne. Évitez le remontage manuel si nécessaire, car cela pourrait endommager le mouvement.

Tournez la lunette dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d’une
montre, en alignant le marqueur de lunette de 12 heures avec l’aiguille des minutes pour définir une heure de début.

LUNETTE DE CHRONOMÉTRAGE
1. Tournez votre lunette dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d’une montre et alignez le marqueur de la lunette de 12 heures avec l’aiguille des minutes. Cela fixera votre heure de début.
2. Prenez la mesure entre l’aiguille des minutes et les marqueurs de la lunette pour calculer le temps écoulé.
REMARQUE : Lors d’une plongée, utilisez votre montre de plongée comme un dispositif de support ainsi que les outils de plongée recommandés par PADI ou BSAC.
