FAQs
does it heat on both sides?
The back of my unit gets hot. Too hot to place on a wall. I cannot hold my hand for more than a few seconds. I suggest before hanging it on a wall, allow it to run at 1500 overnight and try feeling the back. Apparently, the units vary.
How many amps does the heater use on low and high setting?
Watt are equal to Volts x Amps, so Amps are equal to Watts/Volts. Wall outlets in the U.S. are at 120 volts. Hence if the heater draws the rated wattage, 750/120 = 6.25A on Low and 1500/120 = 12.5 Amps on High.
If I ran a fan next to this unit would it help spread the heat faster?
Yes and no. The unit produces X amount of heat for either high or low setting; you can’t change that. The thermostat only controls run time. If you move air through it faster, the air coming out will be less warm.
what size rm will it heat up?
We are heating a room that is about 500sq.ft. The temp outside is about 32 to 45 degrees. The room temp.is about 68. We also used a little oil heater sometimes.
Does this type of mica heater decrease humidity? I am thinking of this vs an oil-filled heater…
The way these utility companies treat us in California is robbery. If you use more than the amount they’ve pre-decided, before 9pm, your rates can triple. So, I prefer the slow heating oil filled DeLonghi heaters.
Do all mica panel heaters have the same annoying hum this one has? Any suggestions on a silent one without the humming?
I bought the DeLonghi Mica Panel Heater 1500 Dec 2012. This is the 2nd winter and absolutely love this one. It makes no noise and really puts out the heat.
How quite is this heater?
The heater makes a quite audible hum, like a fluorescent light. Quieter on low, and louder on high. I love this heater except for the hum. I bought it to use in a meditation house and the hum is distracting.
Can you feel the heat off of this heater? How close do you need to be to feel a cozy warmth?
You feel the heat immediately but best results are achieved in a medium size room after it is on for a half hour or so. It heats my computer room of 140 square feet very comfortably in that amount of time.
Will this replace an mtd engine? Briggs & Stratton 752b1346g2 17.5 hp
No. The DeLonghi HMP1500 is a room heater, not a lawn mower engine. These two types of devices are not normally interchangeable.
How low does the thermostat setting go? I need something that will keep a room above freezing (e.g. 40 degrees Fahrenheit)
Unfortunately, there is no calibrated thermostat; there are two adjustment knobs, neither with very specific markings.
is this an oil heater?
This is NOT oil. It runs with electricity (some type panel like ceramic and has no fan. I have an oil one also by the same manufacturer. They both are great though.
What is the cord length?
about 79 inches (love the heater).
Does it produce light in a dark room when heating? I don’t want to be distracted by light coming on when trying to sleep.
the only light this unit produces is from a small indicator light affirming the unit is turned on.
will this blow a 15 amp circuit breaker
this unit consumes 12.5 amps during use.
Did you notice your electricity bill going down at all when using this versus traditional electric wall heat?
Caused my furnace not to turn on as much winter ’16-’17. Am noticing so far fall ’17 it doesn’t seem to be putting out the heat it did last fall ’16 winter ’17. Was a Great heater keeping entire downstairs – ground level warm? Concerned now that it won’t do as well this fall/winter season.
