The Broadcom 57416 10Gb BASE-T Ethernet Adapters are dual-port 10GBASE-T adapters that are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3an standard and provide a low-cost solution for 10 Gb Ethernet using copper wiring. The adapters are available in PCIe low-profile, OCP 3.0, or ML2 form factor for use in Lenovo ThinkSystem servers. The following figure shows the ThinkSystem Broadcom 57416 10GBASE-T 2-Port PCIe Ethernet Adapter.

Did you know?

10GBASE-T is a low-cost way to enter the 10 Gb Ethernet space. By using standard UTP twisted pair cabling, you eliminate the need for transceivers or fiber optic cabling. The OCP and ML2 adapters support the Network Controller Sideband Interface (NC-SI) for communication with the server’s onboard service processor. This support enables sharing the network interface with the service processor and the operating system, thereby eliminating the need for a separate management network.

FAQs

What do you need an Ethernet adapter for?

Ethernet Adapters allow you to connect your laptop directly to a Wi-Fi router or cable modem was one of the first to go. Indeed, laptops come with a Wi-Fi option, but you’ll get a faster and more reliable connection by using a cable.

What is the speed limit of the Ethernet adapter?

Usually, you can determine the speed capability by the name of the network interface card. It will show a 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps (megabits per second), GigE, or Gigabit Ethernet. b. If your card shows 10/100baseTX Ethernet, 100mbps is the maximum speed of the device.

Does Ethernet adapter affect internet speed?

An Ethernet cable may slow your connection if it’s the wrong type. For example, never use a CAT 5 cable if your internet connection is 200 Mbps or faster. A damaged Ethernet cable can also slow your connection. A broken clip, for example, prevents the contacts from making a full connection in the port

Do you need power for Ethernet?

Standard Ethernet cables are capable of providing both data and power so you do not need to upgrade to special cable to connect PoE devices. However, you will need to get or ‘inject’ power into your network.

Why are there two Ethernet adapters?

Many laptops and some desktop computers have both wired and wireless network adapters or cards. These two cards allow you to establish simultaneous wired and wireless connections to the campus network.

How do Ethernet adapters work?

The adapters (at least two) plug into your wall sockets and use Ethernet cables to connect to your router at one end and your device at the other (TV, games console, PC whatever it may be). This provides a physical connection between your device and router as opposed to the wireless connection provided by your Wi-Fi.

Is an Ethernet adapter better than Wi-Fi?

To access a network via an Ethernet connection, users need to connect a device using an ethernet cable. An Ethernet connection is generally faster than a WiFi connection and provides greater reliability and security.

Can I use multiple Ethernet adapters?

However, by definition, only one adapter may communicate on the network at a time in the Ethernet network topology. Therefore, both adapters cannot be transmitted at the same time and must wait if another device on the network is transmitting.

Where does the Ethernet adapter go?

Also called a “network interface card” (NIC), an Ethernet adapter is a card that plugs into a slot on the motherboard and enables a computer to access an Ethernet network (LAN).

Do Ethernet adapters need drivers?

Like any other device in a computer, you cannot use your Ethernet adapter, or a network card, unless you install a device driver for it.
