PLACEMENT

ARENA 180/170/130/120- LEFT AND RIGHT CHANNELS
For best results, place the speakers 6- 10 feet (1 .8m- 3m) apart. Angling the speakers toward the listen ing position can improve the stereo imaging. The speakers will produce the most accurate stereo soundstage when the angle between the listener and the speakers is between 40 and 60 degrees. Use the included carpet spikes for stability if you are placing your Arena 180/170 speakers on a thick rug or plush carpeting. The carpet spikes can be manually screwed into each rubber foot on the base of the speaker.

CAUTION: Floorstanding (tower) loudspeakers have a high center of gravity and may become unstable and tip over during earthquakes or if they are rocked, tipped or improperly positioned. Consider anchoring these speakers to the wall behind them, using the procedures and hardware customary for anchoring bookcases and wall units. You are responsible for proper installation and proper selection of hardware.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (2)

  • Generally, bass output will increase as the speaker is moved closer to a wall o r corner.
  • For best performance, we recommend that you place the speakers at least 20 inches (5 1 em) away from the side walls.
  • Position Arena 130/120 sh elf speakers so that the ir tweeters are approximately at ear level. Peel off the adhesive backing and apply 4 rubber feet to the corners on the bottom of each speaker.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (3)

WALL-MOUNTING THE ARENA 120
We have designed the Arena 120 speakers to mount directly onto a wall. Each speaker has two keyholes on the back and will require two 1-1 /2″ (38mm), #1 0 wood screws fastened to a wall stud. lf a wall stud is unavailable, install an anchor appropriate for a 1- 1/2″, #1 0 screw.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (4)

NOTE: You are responsible for the correct selection and use of mounting hardware (available through hardware stores) that will ensure the proper and safe wall-mounting of the speakers.

  • Using the included wall template e, mark the positions on the wall where you would like t o place the mounting screws.
  • Fasten two 1- 1/2″ (38mm), #1 0 wood screws to the wall using the markings from Step 1 as your guide. Leave a 1/16″ (1.5 9mm) space between the wall and screwhead.
  • If a wall stud is not available, use an appropriate anchor.
  • To protect wall, attach 4 rubber cushion s (included) in suggest ed locations.
  • Place the speaker on the wall b y align i ng the keyholes on the back of the speaker to the screwheads on the wall.
  • Once positioned properly, the speaker should sli de down slightly and become secure.

ARENA 125C

You should place the center speaker directly above or below the center of your TV screen. The speaker’s tweeter should be no more than 2 feet (61 em) above or below the tweeters of the front left and front right speakers.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (5)

Peel off the adhesive backing and apply 4 rubber feet to the corners on the bottom of the center channel speaker.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (6)

ARENA 130/120- SURROUND CHANNELS (5.1-CHANNEL SYSTEM)

When you use these speakers as surround-channel speakers in a 5.1-channel system, place them slightly behind the listening position, facing each other. Ideally, they should be 5 – 6 feet (1.5m – 1.8m) above the floor. An alternate location would be on a wall behind the listen ing position, facing forward. The surround speakers should not call attention to themselves while they’re playing. Experiment with their placement until you hear a diffuse, ambient sound accompanying the sounds that you hear from the front left, front right and center speakers. If you are using the Arena 130 bookshelf as a wall-mounted surround solution, be sure not to block the rear port opening.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (7)

ARENA 130/120- SURROUND CHANNELS (7.1-CHANNEL SYSTEM)

When you use these speakers as surround-channel speakers in a 7.1 -channel l system, place the surround-side speakers directly to the sides of the listening position, at least 5-6 feet (1.5m – 1.8m) above the floor. Place the surround back speakers on the wall behind the listening position, also at least 5 – 6 feet (1 .5 m – 1.8 m) above the floor and 3- 6 feet (0.9 m – 1.8m) apart.JBL ‎Arena 180 White 2-Way Dual   Floor Standing Loudspeaker  (8)

CONNECTIONS

CAUTION: Make sure that all of the system’s electrical components are turned OFF (and preferably unplugged from their AC outlets) before making any connections.

Speakers and amplifiers have corresponding positive and negative(“+” and”-“) connection terminals. All Arena series speakers have connection terminals that are marked”+” and”- ” on the terminal-cup assembly. Additionally, the”+” terminals have red markings, while the”-” terminals have black markings. To ensure proper polarity, connect each”+” terminal on the back of the amplifier or receiver to the respective “+” (red) terminal on each speaker. Connect the”-” terminals in a similar way. Do not reverse polarities (i.e.,”+” to”-” or “-” to “+”) when making connections. Doing so will cause poor stereo imaging and diminished bass performance.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the(+) and(-) wires or connectors do not touch each other or the other terminal. Touching wires can cause a short circuit that can damage your receiver or amplifier.

FAQS

Do floor standing speakers sound better?

These usually sound the best, giving you big, full range sound. Typically have better dynamics than any other speaker type. Can be easy to drive if they have high efficiency – although not all are

Do floor standing speakers need to be on the floor?

They should be placed on the floor, as you may have guessed by their name. However, if you have little floor space and need to mount them, it is possible to do so with a high ceiling and a heavy-duty shelf.

How big should a room be for floor standing speakers?

If you have a small or medium-sized room – anything up to about 250 square feet – you can get away with buying smaller speakers and still get some serious volume. If you have a larger room, then there’s almost no limit. We’ve seen speakers that are 10 feet tall, and you can only imagine how powerful they sound.

What are floor standing speakers?

There are two main types of home theater speakers: Floor standing, which are tall and sit directly on the ground, and bookshelf, which are smaller and can be placed on a shelf, stand, or table

What is the advantage of floor standing speakers?

Floor-standing speakers are a music-listening favorite, commonly preferred because of their adaptability and capacity for high frequencies. They don’t need to be placed on a stand or table, and they can house multiple speaker drivers, which allows for a higher range of frequencies.

Are floor standing speakers louder than bookshelf?

They usually have more bass output and can play louder than a similar bookshelf counterpart though most floorstanding speakers are NOT true full-range speakers.

Why do speakers sound better on stands?

It matters. “The loudspeaker generates sound pressure which can make wooden floors vibrate. Platforms and stands keep those vibrations from getting back to the speaker – which is important for their performance.

How can I hide my floor standing speakers?

To disguise your floorstanding speakers, first try to find a place for them is out of sight. If you own your speakers and you want to hide them, paint them to match your decor or place them inside a cabinet. You could also try putting them in your walls and covering them with mesh or lattice-work.

Should I put something under my speakers?

You may want your gear and computer to be free from vibration buildup at loud volumes, so you stick these pads under your speakers to minimize that. They also tighten up the low end a little bit.

Where should floor standing speakers be placed?

A good rule is to place them about 3 feet from the front wall. Also, try to place the speaker in a way that the speaker’s distance from the nearest side wall is 1.6 times the distance from the front wall.

How far should floor speakers be from the TV?

The distance between the stereo speakers should match the distance that you are sitting from the television. For example, if you are sitting 6 feet from the television, then each stereo speaker needs to be 3 feet away from the television.

Do floor standing speakers need feet?

I’ve run into this. I’ve seen people with big floor standing speakers in a room sitting on a natural hardwood floor which is not perfectly flat and smooth, and at some frequencies you could actually hear some buzzing coming from the underside of the speaker. So yes, you absolutely need feet of some sort.

How long do floor speakers last?

Depending on the materials they’re made of and the environmental conditions of where the equipment is used, high-quality speakers typically last up to 40-50 years before showing any signs of damage

Can bookshelf speakers sound as good as tower speakers?

Bookshelf speakers on stands with a good subwoofer come close to sounding as good as Floorstanding speakers. As we said at the beginning, a bookshelf speaker and stand might take up a similar space to most floor standing speakers. Most of the time, it’s just that floorstanding speakers, being solid, look much larger.

Is it better to under or over power speakers?

Overpowering will likely kill a speaker faster. Underpowering can be safer if you are very careful and do not crank it up to the point of clipping … Similarly: Underpowering will likely kill a speaker faster. Overpowering can be safer if you are very careful and do not crank it up beyond what the speaker can handle.
