Product Usage Instructions

  1. General information on the Alibi memory option
    • The Alibi memory option YMM-03 is used for the transmission of
weighing data provided by a verified scale via an interface.
    • This option is a factory-installed and preconfigured feature by
KERN when purchasing a product that includes this option.
    • The Alibi memory can store up to 250,000 weighing results. When
the memory is full, previously used IDs are overwritten starting
      with the first ID.
    • To initiate the storage process, press the Print key or use the
KCP remote control command S or MEMPRT.
    • The stored data includes the weight value (N, G, T), date and
time, and a unique alibi ID.
    • When using a print option, the unique alibi ID is also printed
      for identification purposes.
    • To retrieve the stored data, use the KCP command MEMQID. This
command can be used to query a specific single ID or a range of
      IDs.
    • Example:
      • MEMQID 15: Retrieves the data record stored under ID 15.
      • MEMQID 15 20: Retrieves all data sets stored from ID 15 to ID
        20.
  2. Description of the components
    • The Alibi memory module YMM-03 consists of two components: the
      memory YMM-01 and the real-time clock YMM-02.
    • All functions of the Alibi memory can only be accessed by
combining the memory and the real-time clock.
  3. Protection of stored legally relevant data and data
    loss prevention measures
    • Stored legally relevant data is protected through the following
      measures:
      • After a record is stored, it is immediately read back and
verified byte by byte. If an error is found, the record is marked
as invalid. If no error is found, the record can be printed if
        needed.
      • Each record has checksum protection.
      • Information on a printout is read from the memory with checksum
verification, instead of directly from the buffer.
    • Data loss prevention measures include:
      • The memory is write-disabled upon power-up.
      • A write enable procedure is performed before writing a record
        to the memory.
      • After a record is stored, a write disable procedure is
        immediately performed (before verification).
      • The memory has a data retention period longer than 20
        years.

1 General information on the Alibi memory option
– For the transmission of weighing data provided by a verified scale via an interface, KERN offers the alibi memory option YMM-03
– This is a factory option, which is installed and preconfigured by KERN, when a product containing this optional feature is purchased.
– The Alibi memory offers the possibility to store up to 250.000 weighing results, when the memory is exhausted, already used IDs are overwritten (starting with the first ID).
– By pressing the Print key or by KCP remote control command “S” or “MEMPRT” the storage process can be performed.
– The weight value (N, G, T), date and time and a unique alibi ID are stored.
– When using a print option, the unique alibi ID is also printed for identification purposes as well.
– The stored data can be retrieved via the KCP command “MEMQID”. This can be used to query a specific single ID or a series of IDs.
– Example: o MEMQID 15 The data record which is stored under ID 15 is returned. o MEMQID 15 20 All data sets, which are stored from ID 15 to ID 20, are returned.

2 Description of the components
The Alibi memory module YMM-03 consists of the memory YMM-01 and the real time clock YMM-02. Only by combining the memory and the real time clock all the functions of the Alibi memory can be accessed.

3 Protection of stored legally relevant data and data loss prevention measures
– Protection of stored legally relevant data: o After a record is stored, it will be read back immediately and be verified byte by byte. If error is found that record will be marked as an invalid record. If no error, then the record can be printed if needed. o There is checksum protection stored in every record. o All information on a printout is read from the memory with checksum verification, instead of direct from buffer.
– Data loss prevention measures: o The memory is write-disabled upon power-up. o A write enable procedure is performed before writing a record to the memory. o After a record is stored, a write disable procedure will be performed immediately (before verification). o The memory has a data retention period longer than 20 years.

4 Trouble shooting
To open a device or to access the service menu, the seal and thus the calibration must be broken. Please note that this will result in recalibration, otherwise the product may no longer be used in the legal-for-trade area. In case of doubt, please contact your service partner or your local calibration authority first.
Memory module:
– No values with unique ID are stored or printed: Initialize memory in service menu (following the scales service manual).
– The unique ID does not increment, and no values are stored or printed: Initialize memory in menu (following the scales service manual).
– Despite initialization no unique ID is stored: Memory module is defective, contact service partner.

Real time clock module: – The time and date are stored or printed incorrectly: Check time and date in menu (following the scales service manual).

– The time and date are reset after disconnecting from the power supply: Replace the button battery on of the real time clock.

– Despite new battery date and time are reset when removing the power supply: Real time clock is defective, contact service partner.
