Smoothies, dressings, sauces, purees, and frozen desserts can all be made using the tough, fibrous fruits and vegetables. It is not recommended to use this container to make hot soups, nut butters, or grind grains, but it does make fantastic smoothies, sauces, dips, and frozen treats.

  2. Variable Speed Dial
  3. Container
  4. 2-part Lid Assembly
  • Tamper

Container Compatibility
The container included in your Vitamix ONE blender is the only Vitamix container that will work on this motor base.

Off (O)
when the indicator on the Variable Speed Dial is aligned with “O”, the blender is off. By rotating the dial clockwise (to the right) and away from O, you will increase the blade speed.

Variable Speed Dial
The Variable Speed Dial lets you control blade speed from Low to High.  Tip: Follow the instructions in the recipe you are using for best results.

The Variable Speed Dial stops in three places:

  • O (Off)
  • Low (the blades start to spin) and
  • High

Motor
The motor is designed to protect itself from overheating. If the blender will not start immediately, check to make sure you have plugged the unit in. If the motor has overheated, allow the motor to cool for 20-45 minutes.

Tips to prevent ‘overloading’ your blender:

Process only Vitamix recipes when learning to use the blender. Do not process recipes at lower speeds than recommended. Do not process recipes at higher speeds than recommended.

Do not process recipes for longer than recommended.

DO NOT continuously use the blender for more than 3 minutes.

Use your tamper to process thicker mixtures and keep ingredients moving around and through the blades.

Tamper

  • Lids and tampers are not interchangeable between different container styles, types and sizes. Use the tamper that was supplied with your blender.
  • The container should not be more than two-thirds full when the tamper is used during blending.
  • To avoid overheating, DO NOT use the tamper for more than 30 consecutive seconds.

CONTROLS

Vitamix-067892-ONE-Fig-4

Variable Speed Dial

  • The Variable Speed Dial gives you control from Low Speed (slowest) to High Speed (fastest).
  • If the Variable Speed Dial is pointed to “O”, the machine is off.
  • If the Variable Speed Control is rotated clockwise and away from “O”, the blades will spin.
  • CAUTION: If you unplug the unit and plug it back in when the Variable Speed Dial is not pointed at “O”, the motor will start at the speed indicated on the Variable Speed Dial.
  • To avoid inadvertently starting the machine, always make sure the Variable Speed Dial is pointed to “O” when finished with a blend and before plugging the machine in with the power cord.

BLENDING

Vitamix-067892-ONE-Fig-6

  • Remove all packaging materials. Keep or dispose of the materials, following all local guidelines for disposal.
  • Load your container according to your recipe.
IMPORTANT! Always use the lid and the lid plug when the machine is in operation. Never operate the blender without checking to make sure that the lid and lid plug are securely locked in place.
  • Push the lid down into place until the two tabs snap onto the lip of the container. Insert the lid plug. Turn the lid plug clockwise to lock.
  • Put the container onto the base.
  • Look at the Variable Speed Dial. Make sure it is pointing to O.
  • To start the machine, rotate the Variable Speed Dial clockwise (to the right). The blades will begin to turn.
  • Rotate the Variable Speed Dial between Low and High during the blending cycle to increase or decrease the speed of the blades.
  • At the end of the blend, rotate the Variable Speed Dial counter-clockwise to O.
  • If the mixture stops circulating, insert the tamper through the lid plug and stir until it ‘burps.’ If this does not work, turn the Variable Speed Dial back to O to stop the motor. Remove the container from the blender base and use a rubber spatula to press the air bubble away from the blades. Add liquid if necessary. Replace the lid and lid plug. Return the container to the blender base and continue blending.
  1. After blending, turn the Variable Speed Dial back to O. Wait until the blades completely stop before removing the lid or container from the blender base.

Tips to prevent ‘overloading’ your blender:

  • Process only Vitamix recipes when learning to use the blender.
  • Do not process recipes at lower or higher speeds than recommended.
  • Do not process recipes for longer than recommended.
  • DO NOT continuously use the blender for more than 3 minutes.
  • Use your tamper to process thicker mixtures and keep ingredients moving around and through the blades.

How to use the Tamper

IMPORTANT! The splash disk (near the top of the tamper) and lid prevent the tamper from hitting the blades when the lid is secured properly in the locked position.

  • The container should not be more than two-thirds full when the tamper is used during blending.
  • To avoid overheating during blending, DO NOT use the tamper for more than 30 consecutive seconds.
  • If the food does not circulate, the blender may have trapped an air bubble. Carefully remove the lid plug, while making sure the lid stays firmly in place. Release the air bubble by inserting the tamper through the lid plug opening.
  • Holding the tamper straight down may not help the ingredients circulate. If necessary, point the tamper towards the sides or corners of the container. DO NOT try to force the tamper deeper into the container.

CARE

Hand Wash Only

Note
Your Vitamix container is designed to be completely cleanable without removing the retainer nut and blade assembly. DO NOT attempt to remove the retainer nut or blade assembly from the container. Frequently Asked Questions

Does it require a certain minimum volume to function? Is 2 cups of food or liquid enough, for instance?

Yes, two cups are more than sufficient.

Can you use this to mix butter into hot coffee?

The Vitamix One works best when blending cold ingredients.

Could it crush ice?

It will crush ice, but the machine needs liquid to function.

Can it blend beets, celery, and carrots that are raw?

If you cut them up and add a lot of liquid, it will blend, but I wouldn’t throw them in whole.

Can I add powdered frozen fruits and vegetables to this?

I had trouble getting the suction cups holding the blender in place while I was making smoothies. It moves. Although the larger unit was excellent, it was too big for my needs.

Can this cut ice cubes?

Yes, liquid will still need to be added to the machine to improve grinding.

Ice can it be crushed?

Yes it will.

What cannot be blended in a Vitamix?

Think twice before packing your blender with whole frozen fruits and vegetables, including berries, for your upcoming smoothie adventure. This is because using frozen ingredients in your blender could put a lot of strain on the blade (via Cuisinart).

A motor for a Vitamix can it burn out?

Rich blends may cause the motor to overheat. It will turn off on its own before burning out and won’t let you turn it on until it has cooled down. Don’t blend more than 4 cups of thick mixtures, such as hummus, nut butter, or ice cream, to prevent overheating.

Does Vitamix require upkeep?

Utilizing the Blender Care & Maintenance Guide, Vitamix® advises weekly drive socket and centering pad inspections. Look for surface flaws like gouges, cracks, or nicks. Replace them if any are present. Examine the drive socket’s inner gear teeth.

Can Vitamix remain plugged in?

Your Vitamix should not be plugged in when it is not in use, even if it is a permanent fixture on your kitchen counter. In addition to wasting energy, it will also cause the appliance’s electrical parts to degrade over time.
