no, there’s no trick. All that needs to happen is to have one of the Stage’s paired to your phone or tablet and the other one powered on. I typically have music or a movie playing on mine when I take both in my hands while pressing the Bluetooth button simultaneously until I hear the initial “budoop” sound (the technical term for that sound).
you mention computer monitor but it depends on the monitor. The Stage will connect via Bluetooth to a computer provided your computer has the ability to connect with a Bluetooth signal output. My wife uses hers connected to her computer via the 3.5mm jack on the back of the Stage connected to the Headphone jack on her computer.
There is no IR sensor on this speaker and it doesn’t accept an RF signal so there’s no remote that can connect to it. But you can control it from your phone.
I would not put it in the shower but it can go right outside. I would not try to test the water resistance.

To turn it off, press the button on the bottom. The button you used to turn it on. You have to press it pretty hard though. Keep pressing it until it turns off.
