The timer is an optional setting and does not need to be used. By not selecting a timer, the sound machine will play indefinitely until you power off the machine.
It’s hard to get a clear idea of the sound quality when recorded though. I have one of these and find the nature sounds a bit “canned” and the music too “new wave” for my taste.
No but Tranquil is pretty close. There are maybe 3 that are very close to lullaby settings. There’s also white noise.

You can play several different sounds, but not at the same time. I’m not sure why anyone would want to play more than one at a time…it’s an awesome sound machine, I highly recommend it, I use mine every night before falling asleep, I like the surf sounds but there are so many nice ones to choose from.
It should automatically switch that’s the purpose of the batteries but you can simply unplug it and see if it does that.
