Adjust your V Brakes
Product Information
The V-brakes are a type of bicycle brake system that provides
effective and reliable braking. This quick guide will assist you in
setting up and adjusting the V-brakes on your bike. The V-brake
system consists of various components, including the dust
protection brake cable, cable clamp screw brake cable, brake cable,
brake arm, brake shoe, brake shoe clamping screw, spring tension
adjustment screw, clincher rim, and tab for cable attachment. The
required tools for this process are an Allen key (5mm) and a
medium-sized Phillips screwdriver.
Product Usage Instructions
- Firstly, check the wear on the brake pads. The brake shoes have
wear marks, and if the wear reaches this mark, it is necessary to
replace the brake pads. If in doubt, it is advised to replace the
brake shoes sooner rather than later. - Secondly, check the wear on the brake shoes. Bicycle rims
typically have wear marks on the braking surface. If one of the two
marks on the rim is no longer consistently visible, the rim should
be replaced. If unsure, it is recommended to replace the rim sooner
rather than later. - Thirdly, check the position of the brake shoes. Ensure that the
position of the brake shoes aligns with the provided illustration.
The correct position of the brake shoes is crucial for optimal and
reliable braking performance while reducing wear on both the brake
shoes and rims. - If adjustment is required for a brake shoe’s position, follow
these steps:- Unhook the tab for cable attachment (9).
- Loosen the clamping screw for the brake shoe (6).
- Press the brake arm (4) against the rim (8) until the brake
shoe (5) touches the rim (8). - Align the brake shoe (5) according to the provided
illustration. - Retighten the clamping screw for the brake shoe (6).
- Squeeze the brake lever until you reach the pressure point. The
position of the brake lever should match the illustration provided.
If the lever can be pulled too far or touches the handle, the
pressure point needs to be readjusted. To adjust the pressure
point, follow these steps:- Attempt readjusting the pressure point with the cable
adjustment screw. If successful, fix the position of the cable
adjustment screw with the lock nut. - If readjustment is insufficient, proceed to the next
steps. - Screw in the cable adjustment screw all the way in.
- Unhook the tab (9) on the cable guide (10).
- Loosen the cable clamp screw (2) until the brake cable (3) can
move freely. - Press both brake arms (4) onto the rim (8).
- Retighten the brake cable (3) and note the distances between
the brake shoes (5) and the rim (8) as shown in the provided
illustration. - Tighten the cable clamp screw.
- Hook the tab (9) back into the cable guide (10).
- Test the pressure point and, if necessary, adjust it further
with the cable adjustment screw.
- Attempt readjusting the pressure point with the cable
- Ensure that the brake arms are symmetrically aligned when the
brake lever is not pulled. If the alignment is incorrect, follow
these steps to correct the brake arm position:- If the brake arms are set to the right, increase the return
spring tension on this side and decrease it on the opposite
side. - To do this, turn the left adjustment screw for spring tension
(7) by half a turn. - Release the right adjusting screw (7) by half a turn.
- Squeeze and release the brake lever several times.
- Check the alignment of the brake arms.
- Repeat this process until the brake arms are symmetrically
aligned.
- If the brake arms are set to the right, increase the return

Required tool: Allen key 5mm and Phillips screwdriver (medium size)
First step – check wear on brake pads
Brake shoes have a wear mark. These can differ visually. If the wear reaches this mark, the brake pads must be replaced. If in doubt, we advise replacing the brake shoes sooner rather than later.
Second step – check wear on the brake shoes
As a rule, bicycle rims have wear marks on the braking surface. As soon as one of the two marks (right and left side of the rim) is no longer consistently visible, the rim must be replaced. If in doubt, we advise replacing the rim sooner rather than later.

Third step – check the position of the brake shoes
Make sure that the position of the brake shoes corresponds to the illustration on the left with the green tick. The correct position of all brake shoes is essential for perfect and reliable braking. The correct position of the brake shoes also ensures less wear on the brake shoes and the rims.
If you need to correct the position of a brake shoe, please proceed as follows.
– Unhook the tab for the cable attachment (9). – Loosen the clamping screw for the brake shoe (6). – Press the brake arm (4) against the rim (8) until the brake shoe (5) touches the
rim (8). – Align the brake shoe (5) according to the illustration above. – Retighten the clamping screw for the brake shoe (6).

Fourth step check the traction and pressure point
Squeeze your brake lever until you reach the pressure point. The position of the brake lever should look like the one shown on the left. If the lever can be pulled too far or even touches the handle, the pressure point must be readjusted. To adjust the pressure point, please proceed as follows:
Try readjusting the pressure point with the cable adjustment screw. If the pressure point can be adjusted in this way, you must fix the position of the cable adjustment screw with the lock nut.
If this is not enough, follow the next steps.

Fourth step check the traction and pressure point
– Screw in the cable adjustment screw all the way in. – Unhook the tab (9) on the cable guide (10). – Loosen the cable clamp screw (2) until the brake cable (3) can move freely. – Press both brake arms (4) onto the rim (8). – Retighten the brake cable (3). Note the distances between the brake shoes (5) and
the rim (8) as shown above. – Tighten the cable clamp screw. – Hook the tab (9) into the cable guide (10). – Test the pressure point and, if necessary, adjust it with the cable adjustment
screw.

Fifth step check the brake arm position and adjust if necessary
Make sure that the brake arms are aligned symmetrically when the brake lever is not pulled (see fig. left, above). If this is not the case with your brake, please proceed as follows to correct the brake arm position. – If the brake arms are set to the right (see figure above right), the return spring
tension must be increased on this side and decreased on the opposite side. – To do this, turn the left adjustment screw for the spring tension (7) by half a turn. – Then release the right adjusting screw (7) by half a turn. – Squeeze and release the brake lever several times. – Then check the alignment of the brake arms. – Repeat this process until the brake arms line up symmetrically.
