INTRODUCTION

One of Vornado’s newest Whole Room Heaters is the AVH10. The exterior’s contemporary appearance teases an inside with an improved layout, including Auto Climate Control to automatically regulate and maintain a comfortable room temperature. The AVH10’s exterior is chilly to the touch, even though the heat output is plenty to keep everyone in the space comfortable. The AVH10 circulates heat throughout the entire room by using the walls and ceilings as conduits for its precisely tuned airflow, known as “Vortex Action.”

Choose between the 2 heat settings (including a Fan Only option) and adjust the power consumption between Low/750W and High/1500W using the LED screen and push button controls. 140 degrees for both the high and low exit air temperatures. Because it enables you to heat the room you’re in while lowering the thermostat in the rest of the house, the AVH10 can easily pay for itself through energy savings. The 5-year satisfaction guarantee for the AVH10 ensures that Vornado will make things right if you’re not satisfied.

SAFE USE WARNING—To reduce risk of fire, electrical shock and injury to persons, observe the following:

  • Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Extreme caution is required at all times a heater is in operation. Always unplug heater when not in use. Vornado does not recommend unattended and unsupervised use of this heater.
  • This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. If provided, use handles when moving this heater.
  • Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet/receptacle. Never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (outlet/power strip). Do not use this heater on a surge-protected unit or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupted (GFCI) outlet. Note: GFCI outlets are typically found in bathrooms and kitchens and feature a “reset” button to prevent tripping of an electrical circuit.
  • Before plugging power cord into electrical outlet, be sure that all electrical information on the rating label, including voltage, is compatible with your outlet’s power supply.
  • WARNING: To reduce likelihood of circuit overload, fire and electric shock, do not operate with a solid state speed device, such as a dimmer control switch. Use of this appliance on the same electrical circuit as another high energy use product, such as a vacuum cleaner, blender, variable speed fan or circular saw is not advised. Do not use this heater with a timer designed to automatically turn the unit on or off, as this may accidentally disable the heater’s thermal cutout safety feature.
  • Risk of fire. Do not operate if it has been dropped or if damage is apparent to any part of the unit including the cord and plug. Only original replacement parts may be used.
  • Never use the cord as a handle or otherwise yank, strain or stretch the power cord.
  • While the product is plugged in, do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
  • Check your heater cord and plug connections. A loose fitting outlet can cause the plug to overheat or cause a fire. Be sure plug fits tight in the outlet. Check frequently during use to make sure plug and outlet are not hot. If so, discontinue using heater and have outlet replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • Never ignore the signs of an electrical problem, such as: warm outlet coverplates, sparks when plugging in or operating, lights flickering/dimming during operation. Immediately turn off and unplug the appliance if any such problems are noticed. Contact a qualified electrician to investigate possible causes before operating the appliance again.
  • Note: Heaters draw more current than small appliances, overheating of the outlet may occur even if it has not occurred with the other appliances.
  • This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other.) To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
  • Before moving, repositioning, servicing, cleaning and when not in use, use the product controls to turn off the power and then unplug. To disconnect from outlet, grasp and pull only the plug. Also, power off and unplug if the product will be left unattended for an extended period of time or during electrical storms.
  • If your heater suddenly stops working:
  • This heater is equipped with a thermal cutout safety feature designed to automatically shut off when overheating is detected. See the “RESET HEATER” instructions in this guide to determine how to check and reset the heater.
  • If the heater and other electrical products suddenly stop working at the same time, your home circuit breaker or fuse may have tripped due to an overload of power. Consider only running your heater on the “low” setting, only running one heater at once and unplugging all other electrical products while running the heater, and/or hiring an electrician to install an additional circuit to your home’s electrical system.

FAQs

Is the cost of this heater (more than 3x the lasko 754200 ceramic heater w/adjustable t’stat) worth it? Great reviews on both; why choose this one?

I have an older version of the Vornado, purchased in 2008. A couple of years ago, the toggle switch stopped working. Had it replaced at an appliance shop. Worked for about 2-3 years more! The switch has gone dead again.

My unit makes buzzing/static like sound when it is on low setting but not on high. Is this normal? Or is it something wrong with? Should I return?

The slight buzzing is NORMAL on LOW only. It’s the regulation circuit on the control board. Note: if you have low voltage condition (110v-115v) when a 750-1500 watt load is on the circuit, this heater (on low) may go into “protect” mode because the fan doesn’t spin fast enough to remove the heat from inside the unit.

just received this heater, it works out of the box but isn’t working now. Is there a way to troubleshoot or is it already broken?

Same thing happened, but next day it started working again! And I already returned one for same issue. It seems what’s happening is the tip-over switch gets flipped and turning off/on won’t reset.

Has anyone noticed their electric bill increasing significantly with this product? How energy efficient is it?

It doesn’t work. It heats the air in the immediate vicinity of the space heater and then turns off while the rest of the room is still chilly.

what size room will this heat?

That is not an easy question to answer, because there are many variables, like room insulation, outdoor temperature. This heater did warm my 2 car garage during wintertime with outdoor temps in the 30’s.

Electric bill has run substantially higher after this. I run 8 hrs./day. Before I decide to return, any suggestion on how to decrease the bill?

There is probably nothing wrong with your heater. It is just that using more electricity increases your electricity bill. The only way I know to decrease the bill is run it for less time or at a cooler setting.

I bought the avh2 which is not nearly as quiet as our iControl, is there any audible hum from this unit from 2ft away?

I have a recently purchased AVH10. The unit is remarkably quiet – on the low setting I can barely hear the fan. there is no audible hum whatsoever. Works great – much better than the older models I have purchased.

What is the minimum temperature that can be set on the led screen? I’m looking to keep a room in the 40s to prevent freezing.

The lowest temperature is 60 degrees.

Does this heater come back on by itself after a power outage?

Not sure. Haven’t had that experience as yet. However, really like all the features of this Space Heater.

I bought this heater about two weeks ago. I just got my energy bill and it was astronomical. Anyone else find that this heater uses a lot of electric?

We receive very little notices that our heaters are high energy. They use 1500 watts on high and 800 on low heat.

How many prongs is the plug?

The VH10 Heater has a two-prong polarized plug.

How loud is it

Not loud at all, you can hardly hear it. We have a 1300 sq. ft house and we have 2 Vortex heaters and we use them in leiu of our baseboard heaters. Just 2 Vortex heaters keep our whole house plenty warm, even though the freezing temps we have been having.

Is it supposed to make sounds? I can hear the fan on mine

I can hear the fan, but it’s not loud.

Does the fan turn off when the heater reaches the desired temperature, or does the fan continue to circulate the air?

it turns off, then restarts if the temperature drops.

Can the LCD display be turned off after the controls have been set?

the LCD automatically turns off a few seconds after you set it.
