Mosaic Tile Backer Board
The Mosaic Tile Backer Board is an ultra-thin, waterproof tile
backer board that is perfect for backsplashes, tub decks, floors,
and under mosaic strips in all tile designs. It is 1/8 inch thick
and provides a smooth surface for easy installation of tiles. The
backer board is made in the USA and distributed by Home Depot.
Mosaic Accent Strips
The 1/8 inch tile backer board is especially useful for
installing mosaic accent strips into large format wall tile
assemblies. It provides a perfect, even surface to avoid excess
mortar buildup and leveling when trying to align thicker tiles with
the thinner mosaic tile strip. These ultra-thin backer boards can
be pre-tiled in the shop and simply adhered into the wall assembly
on-site using thin-set mortar applied to the back of the strip
only.
Product Usage Instructions
Here are some instructions on how to use the Mosaic Tile Backer
Board:
- Clean the surface where you will be installing the backer board
to remove any dust, debris, or grease. - Cut the backer board to the desired size using a saw or utility
knife. - Apply thin-set mortar to the surface where you will be
installing the backer board. - Press the backer board into place, making sure it is level and
flush with the surrounding surface. - Secure the backer board in place with screws or nails every 6-8
inches around the perimeter and in the field. - Apply fiberglass mesh tape over the seams and corners of the
backer board to reinforce them. - Apply thin-set mortar over the fiberglass mesh tape to seal it
and create a smooth surface. - Allow the thin-set mortar to dry completely before installing
the tiles.
Note: When installing mosaic accent strips, pre-tile the backer
board in the shop and simply adhere it into the wall assembly
on-site using thin-set mortar applied to the back of the strip
only.
