HOW TO CONNECT ELECTRICITY

Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. For personal safety. this appliance must be properly grounded.

DO NOT use an adapter plug with this appliance.
The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a standard 3-prong (grounding) wall outlet to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard from this appliance. The power cord includes a current interrupter device. A test and reset button are provided on the plug case. The device should be tested on a periodic basis by first pressing the TEST button and then the RESET button while plugged into the outlet. If the TEST button does not trip or if the RESET button will not stay engaged, discontinue use of the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is properly grounded? Where a 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.
The air conditioner should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating plate.
This provides the best performance and also prevents overloading house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires. See the Installation Instructions and Electrical Requirements section for specific electrical connection requirements.

Troubleshooting Tips… Before you call for service

Save time and money! Review the charts on the following pages first and you may not need to call for service.ge-20

Normal Operating Sounds

  • YOu may hear a pinging noise caused by water being picked up and thrown against the condenser on rainy days or when the humidity is high.
  • This design feature helps remove moisture and improve efficiency.
  • You may hear the thermostat click when the compressor cycles on and of.
  • Water will collect in the base pan during high humidity or on rainy days. The water may overflow and drip from the Outdoor side of the unit.
  • The fan may run even when the compressor does not.
  • Water droplets being thrown against the outside coils can make a pinging noise. This helps cool the condenser. You can reduce this noise by removing the subbase water plug.GE Window-19

To ensure maximum efficiency it is recommended to check to ensure the rubber drain plug is properly inserted. This plug may be removed during operation to minimize water in the back of the unit; however, removing it will lower the efficiency of your unit.

NOTE: Do not drill hole in the base pan.

FAQS

Every time the cycle end, the unit clunks, is this normal?

Would be normal for some noise as the compressor shuts down. The unit under pressure and is a rotating device so would take a stroke or two to come to stop so you would hear noise

Does this need to be vented?

Yes

Does this have a tip-over safety switch?

No

Is it ok to put it horizontally?

Designed to work standing upright

how many startup amps does it need?

RLA=10 amps & LRA=51 amps.

How many watts is this using when running?

1400

Is it safe to cut the window kit? My window is only 25 inches wide, not 27.5.

Yes, it’s safe to cut window kit

This is 2 units we have gotten and the heat has not worked on either. Has any one had trouble with the heat not working?

First I’m going to assume you got the model with heat…a variation of this model does not. That said, keep in mind this unit works as a heat pump for both a/c and heat. It is not an electric heater and does not warm immediately like one. Heat pumps extract warmth the from cold air, the opposite of a/c. As such, it takes a little while to reach operating temperature. The owners manual says it can take a minute or two. I have found that in a very cold room it may take longer when you first turn it on…as much as 5 minutes. Once it warms up it stays warm and it will cycle on and off to keep your preset temp the same as any other heater.

Is the heat infa red heat?

It’s a Heat Pump; no infrared

What is the “follow me” feature? How does it work?

The Follow Me feature turns your remote control into a mobile thermostat to allow for precise temperature control. It’s like having your thermostat in the palm of your hand. Control temperature, fan speed and all other functions while maintaining perfect temperature control where you are and where you need it most.
Wherever the remote is located, that’s what the unit’s temperature will read. This helps reduce the need to wait for your system to cool or heat the entire room, so you can regulate temperature and feel comfortable faster than ever.

Install thru the wall. What flange do I need clockwise, counterclockwise or bidirectional?

No, this is a window install. You vent the unit through the supplied kit

Will it automatically shut off after reaching the temp operator?

If you have it in cooling mode, the unit will automatically switch over to fan mode upon reaching the set temp. Our unit made a loud “chunking” noise every time it switched over.
