Retevis two-way radios are manufactured by using advanced technologies, and We hope you will be satisfied with the quality and functionality of this product. This two-way radio can give you a more convenient, fast, and reliable user experience.

Warning:

• Please read this manual carefully before using this transceiver.
• Please do not communicate or charge this transceiver inflammable, explosive areas in which transceiver communications are prohibited (such as oil station, gas station, airport, etc.)
• Please do not operate this transceiver without a license in government laws-banned areas.
• Please make sure this transceiver avoids the sunshine and avoids putting it near any heating device.
• Please make sure this transceiver avoids any dusty, humid and water splashed place. Do not put it in an unstable place.
• If the transceiver smells or smokes, please remove the battery pack from the transceiver at once, and then please contact us or your nearest distributor.
• The repair job of this transceiver is in the charge of professionals and technical, self-disassembly is prohibited.

Unboxing and checking

Carefully unpack the transceiver. We recommend that you identify the items in the following table before discarding the packing material. If any item is missing or has been damaged during shipment, please contact the deliveryman or your seller.

Getting Start

Notice:

• Please do not charge for a long time. Please stop charging if the battery is not fully charged within the specified time. The battery will overheat or smoke and burst or burst into flames.
• Please do not put the battery in the microwave or high-pressure vessel. The battery will overheat or smoke and burst or burst into flames.
• Please keep cracked and leaked batteries away from fire. If the battery leak (or exuded a pungent smell), keep the battery away from flammable areas immediately. The electrolyte is flammable and may cause the battery to smoke or burst into flames.
• Please do not use abnormal batteries. Please remove the battery from the charger or device if the battery exuded a pungent smell, change color, deformation or behave abnormally for any reason.
• Please use the specific charger. The charger is specially designed for this radio, and it is more reasonable, safe, and reliable.

1. Use of Li-ion battery packs.
   • Charge before use.
   • To avoid power loss, please remove the battery and store it in a cool and dry place if you are not using it.
   • When storing the battery for a long time:
   -remove the battery from the device
   -if it is possible, discharge the battery
   -store in a cool (below 77℉) and dry place.
2. Battery pack characteristics.
   • The battery capacity gradually decreases after repeated charging and discharging.
   • Battery age even if it is never used.
   • It takes longer to charge a Li-ion battery in a cool place.
   • Charging in a hot place will shorten the service life. Battery ages faster when stored in a hot place. So please do not put the battery in the car or near the heater.
   • If the battery lasts for a short time, replace the battery even if it is fully charged. Continuing to charge and discharge the battery will cause the electrolyte to leak.
3. Charging
   Put the transceiver into the charger, in this case, the transceiver indicator light is red means charging. After the charger is full, the indicator is green.
4. Install/Remove the battery
   Notice:
   • Do not short-circuit the battery or throw the battery into fire.
   • Do not try to remove the battery shell
   • Do not install the battery in hazardous conditions, the sparks will cause explosions.

   Insert the top terminal vertexes of the battery into the slots in the radio battery slot, then press the bottom of the battery until hearing the snap sound.	To remove the battery, please ensure that the radio is off, and then push the battery latch button at the bottom of the radio to the right. Remove the upper part of the battery from the radio and remove the battery.

5. Install/Remove the back clip. If necessary, the configured back clip can be locked on the back of the battery by a screw for easy carrying.
   Unscrew two screws to remove the clip.
6. Install the strap. Slip the radio strap into the ring in the middle of the radio.

Familiar with the radio.

Basic operations

1. Indicator
   Red light in transmission, and green light in reception.
2. Channel knob.
   Rotate channel knob to switch the channel 1~30. Counterclockwise rotation reduces the channel number, clockwise rotation increases the number of channels. The prompt alert ring when the channel is free.
3. Power ON/OFF knob/Volume adjust knob
   Clockwise rotation to turn on the radio, counterclockwise rotation and hear a click to turn off the radio. Volume adjusting when rotation.
4. PTT button
   Press [PTT] button and speak to call, light red. Light red with an alert when the channel is free. Release [PTT] button to receive, light green, and speaker works.
5. Customize the side keys
   Program the side keys’ function on the programming software of RB23.
   Short press [PF1] or [PF2]: A. Monitor B. Alert C. VOX D. VOX delay E. Scan
   Monitor: listen for calls on the chosen channel. If there is no call it is noisy.
   Alert: activate the alert function, press [PTT] to return.
   VOX: Turn on/off the VOX function.
   VOX delay: adjust the time of delay.
   Scan: Automatically detects channels with scanning enabled in channels from 1 to 30. When there is a signal in the channel being scanned, the radio will stop on the channel for speaking. (Scan function can be customized for each channel in the programming software)
6. Squelch level
   Signal reception integrity can be adjusting the quelch level. The lower the quelch level, the less noise filtering, and the longer distance, but the weaker the anti-interference ability.
   The factory setting of the radio is level 5. The level can be chosen from 0~9 in the ‘squelch level’, ‘function setting’ list in the programming software. Level 0 means squelch normally open.
7. TOT: Time out timer
   The purpose of the TOT is to prevent single radio from occupying the channel for too long and to avoid damage caused by continuous transmission of the radio. If the transmission time exceeds the limit time, the radio will stop transmitting and prompt an alert. Release [PTT] return to receive condition.
8. Scan
   When channels are set to scannable, rotate the channel knob to one channel enter the scanning. If the current channel is 16, the radio can detect the signal from channel 1~30 (The scan function can be customized for each channel in the programming software). When there is a signal in the channel being scanned, the radio will stop on the channel for speaking.
   Notice: a. the channel will stop at the channel with signal, continue scan next channel after 10 seconds when loss the signal.
   b. When the number is scannable channels is less than two, the scan function cannot be enabled.
9. Prompt Voice
   Turn off the prompt voice, there is no voice when operating; turn on the English prompt voice function when choosing English.
10. Battery Save Function
    Setting in the software enters the battery save mode.
    Notice: a. No check means the battery save function turns off.
    b. Check means the battery save function to turn on.
11. Battery voltage warning.
    Notice: When the battery voltage is lower than a level, if the voice prompt turns off, a ‘Clip-clop’ sound will be emitted every 30 seconds, and if the voice prompt is on, a ‘low voltage’ sound will be emitted.
12. BCL
    If a busy channel lock is set, press [PTT] to prohibit transmission and beep after receiving the signal, until releasing the [PTT].
13. VOX
    VOX function can transmit by the speaking voice, do not press [PTT]. Stop transmission after stop speaking. To activate the function in the programming software.
    a. Activate the VOX function. speaking to the speaker, the VOX function works and transmits the voice.
    Stop speaking, the transmission stops and waits for the reception.
    b. When connecting head earpiece with mic.
    To adjust the VOX gain to adjust the volume if activate the VOX function.
    If the microphone is too sensitive, the noise will activate the VOX for transmission. If the microphone is not sensitive enough, the voice is difficult to activate the VOX function and cannot transmission. So be sure to adjust the VOX gain level before use.
    Notice: if the VOX gain level is high, it will transmission when the voice plays by the mic.
14. QT/DQT
    QT/DQT can be set by programming software on the channel. The squelch can be activated when receiving the same QT/DQT as the channel set. The squelch cannot be activated and is light green when receiving the different QT/DQT for the call.

These instructions are important because they inform users about RF energy exposure and provide simple procedures on how to control it.

Local Government Regulations
When two-way radios are used as a consequence of employment, the Local Government Regulations requires users to be fully aware of and able to control their exposure to meet occupational requirements. Exposure awareness can be facilitated by the use of a product label directing users to specific user awareness information. Your Retevis two-way radio has an RF Exposure Product Label. Also, your Retevis user manual or separate safety booklet includes information and operating instructions required to control your RF exposure and to satisfy compliance requirements.

Radio License
Governments keep the radios in classification, business two-way radios operate on radio frequencies that are regulated by the local radio management departments (FCC, ISED, OFCOM, ANFR, BFTK, Bundesnetzagentur…).To transmit on these frequencies, you are required to have a license issued by them. For the detailed classification and the use of our two radios, please contact the local government radio management departments. Use of this radio outside the country where it was intended to be distributed is subject to government regulations and may be prohibited.

Unauthorized modification and adjustment
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance may void the user’s authority granted by the local government radio management departments to operate this radio and should not be made. To comply with the corresponding requirements, transmitter adjustments should be made only by or under the supervision of a person certified as technically qualified to perform transmitter maintenance and repairs in the private land mobile and fixed services as certified by an organization representative of the user of those services.
Replacement of any transmitter component (crystal, semiconductor, etc.) not authorized by the local government radio management departments equipment authorization for this radio could violate the rules.

RF Exposure Information(if applicable)

• DO NOT operate the radio without a proper antenna attached, as this may damage the radio and may also cause you to exceed RF exposure limits. RF Exposure Compliance and Control Guidelines and Operating Instructions
To control your exposure and ensure compliance with the occupational/controlled environment exposure limits, always adhere to the following procedures.

Guidelines:

• User awareness instructions should accompany the device when transferred to other users.
• Do not use this device if the operational requirements described herein are not met. Operating Instructions (if applicable):
• Transmit no more than the rated duty factor of 50% of the time. To Transmit (Talk), push the Push to Talk (PTT) button. To receive calls (listen), release the PTT button. Transmitting 50% of the time, or less, is important because the radio generates measurable RF energy exposure only when transmitting in terms of measuring for standards compliance.
• Transmit only when people outside the vehicle are at least the recommended minimum lateral distance away from a properly installed according to installation instructions, externally mounted antenna.
• When operating in front of the face, worn on the body, always place the radio in a Retevis approved clip, holder, holster, case, or body harness for this product. Using approved body-worn accessories is important because the use of Non-Retevis approved accessories may result in exposure levels, which exceed the IEEE/ICNIRP RF exposure limits.

Hand-held Mode(if applicable)

• Hold the radio in a vertical position with the microphone (and other parts of the radio including the antenna) at least 2.5 cm (one inch) away from the nose or lips. The antenna should be kept away from the eyes. Keeping the radio at a proper distance is important as RF exposure decreases with increasing distance from the antenna.

Phone Mode(if applicable)

• When placing or receiving a phone call, hold your radio product as you would a wireless telephone. Speak directly into the microphone.

Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility

NOTE: Nearly every electronic device is susceptible to electromagnetic interference (EMI) if inadequately shielded, designed, or otherwise configured for electromagnetic compatibility.
