It is very dark in color. I wouldn’t say that it is black or dark brown. It matches my other cherry-finished furniture.

I wanted off-white tables in this size so based on these older answers ordered two white tables. My tables are lovely but very bright white. My husband spray-painted them an ivory color so now they are perfect. Can’t beat the price, either.

No, only bare wood should be stained. This already has a protective coating on it – perhaps polyurethane as other products by this company have.
The outside width of the legs is 15 inches. This table is awesome. So easy to assemble and looks expensive and well-made.
If you open the drawer, It goes in the wooden panel under the top of the table. I think it helps the drawer from opening by itself.
Depends on the size. Clearance from the bottom of the drawer going down to the top of the bottom shelf is 9.33 inches. Shelf dimensions are 13.31 inches wide x 14.88 inches deep. The static weight capacity of the bottom shelf is 30 lbs. If the milk crate exceeds any of these dimensions, I would not recommend it.

There is a hole under the top of the table. Easy to push in.
My son, who put the table together said our was a little wobbly at the beginning also. He thinks we got rid of the wobbles by putting items on the tabletop, and as I mentioned in my review, our 17-lb dog lies on the bottom shelf.
No it cannot. The shelf is needed to support the rest of the table. It’s a very nice table with a shelf though.
The bottom shelf screws to the legs and gives the table extra support. I wouldn’t use it without the shelf. However, perhaps the vinyl would work in place of it. Only one way to find out.
Yes it comes in pieces, if you don’t have experience putting items like this together have someone else help you. If that’s too much. Pass don’t order. I have experience doing this kind of stuff and I still put a screw in wrong and it went thru tabletop! You have to make sure you read the instructions carefully!
