What’s in the Box?
A. 1 × Brake pipe straightening rod
B. 2 × 3 ⁄ 16″ inserts*
C. 2 × 1 ⁄ 4″ inserts*
D. 2 × 5 ⁄ 16″ inserts*
*One pair of inserts are pre-installed into the straightening rod before shipment.
Operating Instructions
Important: The first 200mm (8″) of the brake pipe must be straightened by hand.
- Remove the screw caps from both ends of the straightening rod.
- Place an appropriate insert into one end of the rod and screw the cap firmly into place.
- Insert the pipe through the capped end of the rod until it emerges from the open end.
- Place the matching insert over the pipe and into the rod and screw the cap firmly into place.
- Grip the short end of the pipe in a suitable die and clamp it into a flaring tool.
Important: The end can be flared at this time if required. ONLY do this if the straightening rod can be removed from the pipe after flaring. Ensure that the tube nut is installed on the brake pipe before flaring. - Slide the straightening rod along the pipe to straighten the required length.
- Cut the pipe to the required length, then remove the straightening rod and release the pipe from the flaring tool.
Maintenance and Storage
- Clean the product of dust or debris before and after each use.
- Replace any insert that shows signs of damage or excessive wear.
- Before storing the product, wipe it thoroughly with a lightly oiled cloth to prevent corrosion.
- Store the product in a clean and dry environment, out of reach of children.
