Overview
System Loco Ltd’s ‘LocoTrack Primary’ is designed for detecting the presence of LocoTags in transit for supply chain, logistics, and asset monitoring applications.
There are three variants:
- HGD4 – a disposable device designed for close tracking of packages, containing 4 AA alkaline batteries.
- NOTE the HGD4 supports a circular economy approach to supply chain tracking, with recovered devices being easily refurbished and re-used
- HGP4 – an ultra long-life asset tracking device placed on or inside a package or fixed to an asset, containing 8 AA alkaline batteries.
- HGC4 – a long-life asset tracking device for pallet tracking, mounted in the pallet, containing 4 C-cell alkaline batteries.

The LocoTrack Primary was designed for simple operation.

Please see LED patterns in the System Loco Knowledge Base for more details.
The HGD4 variant can be remotely de-activated on locoaware.com to preserve the battery and reuse the device for new shipments.
The LocoTrack Primary supports LocoTag BLE tag tracking capabilities. LocoTag association is performed in the LocoAware application.
NOTE: Monitor the device behavior with your login to the locoaware.com portal.
Operating Conditions
- -20 degrees C to 55 degrees C
- IP67
Operating Cycle
When installed the LocoTrack Primary is placed inside or onto an asset and turned on.
For both variants, the device will only be handled by human operators when it is installed and when it is removed from an asset. After it is removed, the device is switched off and (typically) recycled.
HGD4
The LocoTrack Primary can be configured to operate in different ways. The device wakes up periodically to perform operations. Between operations the device’s radios are asleep. In the expected use case for the HGD4 the operating cycle will be as follows:
When the device is stationary, every four hours the device will wake up, perform radio operations and go back to sleep. The on-time is usually 1 minute. The moving state is used when the device is packaged inside a shipment of goods and is in transit by sea, air, or ground (during which periods, the device is not handled).
HGP4
In the expected use case for the HGP4 the operating cycle will be as follows:
The device will wake up once every 24 hours, perform radio operations and go back to sleep.
The on-time is usually 1 minute.
HGC4
The HGC4 operating cycle is the same as the HGP4
