PRDX09OBS-1 OBSIDIANA Octave Layering System
Product Information
The Obsidiana is an octave layering system in a polyphonic
fashion, designed by Paradox Effects. It offers multi-voice
capabilities with two filter options: 1 pole low pass and 2 pole
resonant low pass filter. The unique feature of branching octave
trails allows for the creation of syncopated rhythms or layers of
reflective evolving pitches.
This pedal responds well to both chords and single notes,
capable of processing broad signal spectrums. It seamlessly
combines the power of a DSP while maintaining an overall warm and
balanced voice through its analog direct signal.
The Raiz mode decomposes the sample signal to create routes with
nested delays, resulting in soundscapes of octave particles and
generating a syncopated sensation with each iteration.
The pedal features various controls including OCTAVA for
controlling the level of octave down and octave up, D I R E C T O
for controlling the dry signal output, REGEN for providing feedback
of the octaved signals, and E X P for connecting an expression
pedal to control the Filtro parameter.
Product Usage Instructions
- Connect your instrument to the input jack of the Obsidiana
pedal. - Connect your amplifier or audio interface to the output jack of
the pedal. - Connect a regulated 9V DC power supply with a positive barrel
and negative center to the power input jack of the pedal. - Turn on the pedal by pressing the Bypass switch. The LED
indicator will light up in blue to indicate the 1 pole filter
mode. - Adjust the OCTAVA control to set the level of octave down.
Turning it clockwise increases the level. - Use the OCTAVA control to set the level of octave up. Turning
it clockwise increases the level. - Adjust the D I R E C T O control to set the level of the dry
signal output. - Experiment with the REGEN control to add feedback of the
octaved signals and create more upper and lower octaves in the wet
signal. - If desired, connect an expression pedal to the EXP input jack
to control the Filtro parameter. The knob determines the maximum
and minimum sweep of the filter. - Press both buttons simultaneously to switch between the 1 pole
and 2 pole filter options. - Adjust the Lag control to introduce more lag between the dry
and octave signals. - Explore different VOZ settings to switch between the Obsidiana
voice (clear and crystalline octaves with warmth and presence) and
the Ancient voice (voice with frequency modulations resembling a
Leslie organ). - To turn off the pedal, press the Bypass switch again.
Note: It is recommended to use a regulated 9V DC power supply
with good regulation, isolation, and filtering to avoid unexpected
noise or damage to the pedal.

THE SOUND OF FORMING CRYSTALS
Obsidiana is an octave layering system in a polyphonic fashion, that sets itself apart from other octaves out there, multi-voice, two type filter options: 1 pole low pass, 2 pole resonant low pass filter, and a unique feature with branching octave trails, that can create syncopated rhythms or layers of reflective evolving pitches.
It responds well with both chords or single notes, able to process broad signal spectrums; seamlessly combining the power of a DSP, whilst maintaining a completely analog direct signal to maintain an overall warm and balanced voice.
As an integral effort here at Paradox Effects, we endeavored into a differentiator that could bring you a new spectrum of possibilities for a pedal of this kind, always fulfilling musical and functional needs.
Raiz mode consists in the decomposition of the sample signal, to create routes with nested delays that form soundscapes of octave particles, generating a syncopated sensation with each iteration.
Output 1/4″ Jack
Power Input 2.1mm, 9v DC EXP Input 1/4″ TRS Jack
Voice: *Voz1:Obsidiana *Voz2:Shift
Octave Down: *Octave level.
Regen: *Higher amount of octave feedback to the right.
Filter: *1P: Low pass filter, more amount of highs to the right. *2P: Resonant Low Pass Filter.
Bypass : *Latching On-Off.
Output 1/4″Jack
Root: *Raíz 1 *Raíz 2
Octave Up: *Octave level.
2p Filter: *Press both buttons to change filter option. Dry: *Direct signal level.
Lag: *Clockwise more lag between dry and octave signal.
LED Indicator: *Blue: 1p *Violet: 2p
CONTROLS
OCTAVA : Controls the level of octave down.
D I R E C T O : Controls the Dry signal output.
REGEN: Feedback of the octaved signals to provide more upper and lower octaves to the overall wet signal, creating a similar sensation to a sustained organ note.
FILTRO: [Press once Voz and Raíz buttons simoultaneously to access 1p or 2p Filter]. 1p (Blue LED): A low-pass filter, brighter when turned to the right, darker to the left. 2p (Violet LED): Second order low-pass resonant filter, sounds more of a synthesizer; moving the “Filtro” knob or expression pedal you’ll have more drastic and spatial changes.
E X P : Expression pedal TRS input, it controls the “Filtro” parameter, the knob still determines the MAX/MIN sweep of the filter.
OCTAVA : Controls the level of octave up.
RETARDO: In Raiz 1 (OFF) mode, it controls the space between the attack and the voice of the note, similar to a Lag control. In Raíz 2 (ON) mode, it controls the space between the octave ramifications.
RAÍZ: Raíz 1 (OFF): Conventional octaver tracking the input signal in function with the “Retardo”(Lag) knob. Raiz 2 (ON): “Crystalized” octaver with syncopated ramifications, generating granulated maps of octaves that evolve in time, depending on the position of the “Regen” knob.
VOZ: Voz 1 (OFF) – Obsidiana voice: Clear and crystalline octaves, with a touch of warmth and presence. Voz 2 (ON) – Ancient voice: Voice with frequency modulations, sounds similar to a Leslie organ.
SPECIFICATIONS
Power Supply…………………………………………….9v Dc (No baterry option) Min. Current Draw…………………………………………………………………..100mA
Dimensions………..95(W) x 125(D) x 55(H)mm (with jacks and knobs) Weight……………………………………………………………………………………….350g
We recommend using a regulated de 9 volt Dc power supply with our pedals, 2.1mm diameter positive barrel and negative center. Using one with poor regulation, not isolated and poor filtering can result in unexpected noise or unwanted higher voltages that can take the pedal out of operation and even cause damage.
