Congratulations on your purchase of the A&D Medical UT-302 Instant-Read Ear Thermometer. This easy to use thermometer offers a safe, accurate and quick way to take a temperature measurement through the ear. It is an especially convenient method of taking a child’s temperature and perfect for adults too.
Before Use
· In order to obtain an accurate measurement, please read this instruction manual carefully before using.
Precautions
· This thermometer is designed to take a temperature through the ear canal. DO NOT use it to take rectal, oral or underarm temperature.
· This ear thermometer is a delicate electronic device. Please handle with care.
· Only the tip of the ear thermometer is waterproof. Follow the proper cleaning instructions as outlined in this manual. Do not submerge body of thermometer in water or any other liquid.
· Do not expose thermometer to direct sunlight. · Precision components were used in the construction of this device.
Extremes in temperature, humidity, shock or dust should be avoided. · Keep this device out of the reach of children. · Do not self-diagnose your condition using the measured result.
Consult your doctor if your temperature is higher than the normal temperature. · Do not use the ear thermometer if there is blood or drainage in the external ear canal. · Do not use the ear thermometer in an infected ear. · Do not force the thermometer tip into the ear canal. · Do not disassemble the ear thermometer.

Taking your Temperature
Before You Start This product is intended for household use only. lf you have questions about the meaning of a specific temperature, please consult your physician. Use the thermometer at room temperature between 60.8ºF – 104.0ºF (16ºC – 40ºC). lf the ear thermometer is stored in an environment where the temperature is out of that range, move the thermometer to a location with a room temperature of 60.8ºF – 104.0ºF (16ºC – 40ºC). Allow the thermometer to equalize to that temperature range before use. DO NOT measure temperature if: · Your ear is cold, wet or blocked with ear wax · lt is within 30 minutes after eating, taking a bath or physical exercise · You are suffering from an ear infection
NOTE: Make sure the tip of the thermometer is clean. A dirty lens may cause an inaccurate measurement. Clean the lens with a soft, alcohol moistened cloth or cotton swab. Never use an abrasive cleaner. Never submerge the body of the thermometer in water or any other liquid.
We recommend you practice with the A&D Medical ear thermometer on yourself and family members while you are healthy. This way you know how the thermometer works and will feel more confident of the measurements when you or a family member is ill.

How The Ear Thermometer Works The A&D Medical ear thermometer utilizes infrared thermo scanning principies to scan the temperature of the human eardrum. The eardrum is located beneath the surface and not easily influenced by the changing temperature in the environment. The A&D Medical ear thermometer is faster, safer and easier to use than traditional stick thermometers. lt scans the eardrum 512 times per second and displays the highest temperature detected. Measurements can even be taken while your child is sleeping. For adults, an ear thermometer offers fast, comfortable, accurate readings in seconds. Why The Ear? Research indicates that the ear is an ideal site for taking body temperature. The eardrum shares blood vessels with the hypochalamus, the part of the brain that controls body temperature. Therefore, the ear is an accurate indicator of internal body temperature.

Taking Your Temperature
1. Press Fronthead cover’s sides to remove.
2. Press the Power/Scan button for one second consecutively. The system will perform a self-test, and all symbols will be displayed on the LCD for one second
3. After the self-test, the last temperature taken will be shown on the display.The UT-302 is now ready to take a new measurement
4. Press the Power/Scan ” ” again. The symbol ” ” will appear beneath the last reading.

5. lnsert the probe into the ear canal. The probe must be inserted well into ear to allow the probe tip to continuously sean the ear canal. This will ensure an accurate temperature measurement.
6. After one second a beep will sound indicating the reading is complete. Remove the thermometer from the ear to get the temperature reading.
7. A smiling face” ” will appear indicating a temperature reading lower than 38ºC (100.4ºF).
A sad face ” ” accompanied by one long and two short beeps will indicate a temperature of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or higher.

8. A “Lo” or a “Hi” symbol appears when the temperature measured is out of the measurement range.
9. The symbol “Err” appears if the operating temperature is not within 16ºC (60.8ºF) and 35ºC (95ºF).
10. To recall past readings, press the “M” button on the underside of the unit. The memory symbol and the set index appear at the top left side of the display.
11. To insure a long battery life, this thermometer will automatically power off after one minute of non-use.

Switching The Unit Of Measure
1. To switch between ºC or ºF, press the Power/Scan ” ” button once. Then press and hold the Power/Scan ” ” button. Now, press the “M” button to toggle between the ºC or ºF modes.

Replacing the Battery
Low Battery Warning Replace the battery when the low battery warning symbol ” ” appears on the display. When the low battery symbol appears, the thermometer is still fully functional. When the “Lo” and ” ” appear on the display you should stop using the thermometer until the battery has been replaced.
Battery Installation 1. Using a small phillips head screwdriver, remove the screw from the
battery lid and remove the lid. 2. Using a non-metal pointed tool, carefully dislodge the battery and
remove. 3. lnsert a new 3 Volt CR-2032 Lithium battery, with the positive (+) side
facing up. 4. Place the lid back on and screw in to secure.
Note:Battery removal clears readings stored in memory.

Care and Cleaning
Probe Lens Clean the lens of the thermometer with a soft, alcohol moistened cotton swab after each use. Do not use water to wash the probe lens. Thermometer Clean the body of the thermometer with a soft, dry cloth – DO NOT use water, cleaning solutions or any other liquid. Never use an abrasive cleaner or submerge the body of the thermometer in water or any other liquids.

Troubleshooting
Problem
Why do I get consistently low temperature readings?
Recommended Action
The thermometer is not positioned properly in the ear. The tip of the thermometer must form a seal around the opening of the ear.
Why is the reading taken in the right ear different from that taken in the left ear?
The waterproof lens is dirty. Clean the lens with a soft, alcohol moistened cotton swab.
The temperature is roughly the same in both ears, but the values may differ because the shape and cleanliness of each ear is different. Also, the position of the thermometer can affect the reading.
Can I use this thermometer to measure an animal’s temperature?
No. This thermometer has been designed exclusively for human use. The UT-302 ear thermometer was programmed specifically for the human ear construction and human body temperature.

A&D Medical (“A&D”) warrants to the first purchaser (“You”) that the A&D product You purchased (the “Product”) will be free from defects in material, workmanship and design for the applicable Warranty Term stated above from the date You purchased the Product under normal use. This Limited Warranty is personal to You and is not transferable. If the Product is defective, then You return the Product to A&D in accordance with the procedure set forth below. A&D’s warranty obligation is limited to the repair or replacement, at A&D’s option, of the defective Product that has been returned by You within the warranty period. Précautions
· Ce thermomètre est conçu pour prendre la température par le conduit auditif. NE l’utilisez PAS pour prendre la température du rectum, de la bouche ou des aisselles.
· Ce thermomètre auriculaire est un appareil électronique délicat. Veuillez donc le manipuler avec précaution.
· Seul l’embout du thermomètre auriculaire est étanche. Suivez les instructions de nettoyage appropriées décrites dans ce mode d’emploi. Ne plongez pas le corps du thermomètre dans l’eau ou tout autre liquide.
· N’exposez pas le thermomètre à la lumière directe du soleil.

Comment fonctionne le thermomètre auriculaire Le thermomètre auriculaire A&D Medical utilise des principes de détection infrarouge pour mesurer la température du tympan humain. Le tympan est situé sous la surface et n’est pas facilement influencé par les changements de température de l’environnement. Le thermomètre auriculaire A&D Medical est plus rapide, plus fiable et plus facile à utiliser que les thermomètres traditionnels. Il mesure la température du tympan 512 fois par seconde et affiche la plus élevée parmi celles détectées. Les mesures peuvent même être prises pendant que votre enfant dort. Pour les adultes, un thermomètre auriculaire permet d’obtenir rapidement et aisément des mesures précises en quelques secondes. Pourquoi l’oreille? Les recherches indiquent que l’oreille est un site idéal pour prendre la température du corps. Le tympan partage des vaisseaux sanguins avec l’hypochalamus, la partie du cerveau qui contrôle la température corporelle. Par conséquent, l’oreille est un indicateur précis de la température interne du corps.

1. Appuyez sur les côtés du couvercle de la sonde avant pour l’enlever.
2. Appuyez sur le bouton d’alimentation/ de mesure pendant 1 seconde. Le système effectue un test automatique et tous les symboles s’affichent sur l’écran LCD pendant une seconde.
3. Après le test automatique, la dernière température prise s’affiche à l’écran et l’UT-302 est maintenant prête à prendre une nouvelle mesure.

5. Insérez la sonde dans le conduit auditif. La sonde doit être bien insérée dans l’oreille pour permettre à l’embout de la sonde de pénétrer dans le conduit auditif. Cela permet d’obtenir une mesure précise de la température.
6. Après une seconde, un signal sonore indique que la lecture est terminée. Retirez le thermomètre de l’oreille pour obtenir la lecture de la température.
7. Un visage souriant « » apparaîtra pour indiquer que la température est inférieure à 38 °C (100,4 °F)
Un visage triste « » accompagné d’un long et de deux courts signaux sonores indique une température de 38 ºC (100,4 ºF) ou plus.

8. Le symbole « Lo » ou « Hi » apparaît lorsque la température mesurée se trouve hors de la plage de mesure.
9. Le symbole « Err » apparaît si la température de fonctionnement n’est pas comprise entre 6 ºC (60,5 ºF) et 35 ºC (95 ºF).
10. Pour afficher les lectures antérieures, appuyez sur le bouton « M » situé sur la partie inférieure de l’appareil. Le symbole de la mémoire et l’indice de réglage apparaissent dans la partie supérieure gauche de l’écran.
11. Pour que les piles durent longtemps, ce thermomètre s’éteint automatiquement après une minute de non-utilisation.

Changement d’unité de mesure
1. Pour passer de ºC à ºF, appuyez une fois sur le bouton d’alimentation/de mesure « ». Ensuite, appuyez sur le bouton d’alimentation/de mesure « » et maintenez-le enfoncé. Appuyez ensuite sur le bouton « M » pour basculer entre les modes ºC ou ºF.

Remplacement des piles
Batterie faible Remplacez la pile lorsque le symbole de batterie faible « » apparaît à l’écran. Lorsque le symbole de batterie faible apparaît, le thermomètre fonctionne encore parfaitement. Lorsque les symboles « Lo » et « » apparaissent à l’écran, vous devez attendre que la pile soit remplacée avant d’utiliser le thermomètre.
Installation des piles 1. À l’aide d’un petit tournevis cruciforme, retirez la vis du couvercle du
compartiment à piles et retirez le couvercle. 2. À l’aide d’un outil pointu non métallique, délogez soigneusement la
pile et retirez-la. 3. lnsérez une pile neuve au lithium de 3 volts CR-2032, en orientant le
côté positif (+) vers le haut. 4. Remettez le couvercle en place et vissez-le pour le fixer.
Remarque : le retrait de la pile efface les lectures enregistrées dans la mémoire.

Entretien et nettoyage
Lentille de la sonde Nettoyez la lentille du thermomètre à l’aide d’un coton-tige doux, imbibé d’alcool, après chaque utilisation. N’utilisez pas d’eau pour laver la lentille de la sonde. Thermomètre Nettoyez le corps du thermomètre avec un chiffon doux et sec; n’utilisez PAS d’eau, de produits de nettoyage ou tout autre liquide. Ne nettoyez jamais avec des produits abrasifs et n’immergez jamais le corps du thermomètre dans l’eau ou tout autre liquide.

Problème
Pourquoi est-ce que j’obtiens des lectures de température constamment basses?
Action recommandée
Le thermomètre n’est pas bien positionné dans l’oreille. L’extrémité du thermomètre doit former un joint autour de l’ouverture de l’oreille.
La lentille étanche est sale. Nettoyez la lentille avec un coton-tige doux et imbibé d’alcool.
Pourquoi la mesure prise dans l’oreille droite est-elle différente de celle prise dans l’oreille gauche?
La température est à peu près la même dans les deux oreilles, mais les valeurs peuvent différer, car la forme et la propreté de chaque oreille sont différentes. De plus, la position du thermomètre peut affecter la lecture.
Puis-je utiliser ce thermomètre pour mesurer la température d’un animal?
Non. Ce thermomètre a été conçu exclusivement pour les humains. Le thermomètre auriculaire UT-302 a été programmé spécifiquement pour la construction de l’oreille humaine et la température du corps humain.

La présente garantie limitée ne couvre pas, et A&D ne sera pas responsable (i) de tout dommage lié à l’expédition, (ii) de tout dommage ou défaut dû à une mauvaise utilisation, à un abus, à un manque de soin raisonnable, au non-respect des instructions écrites jointes au Produit, à un accident, à l’exposition du Produit à une tension autre que celle spécifiée, à des conditions environnementales inappropriées, ou à une modification, une altération ou une réparation par toute personne autre que A&D ou des personnes autorisées par A&D, ou (iii) des composants consommables.
CETTE GARANTIE LIMITÉE EST LA SEULE GARANTIE FOURNIE PAR A&D; IL N’EXISTE AUCUNE AUTRE GARANTIE EXPRESSE. Si A&D ne peut raisonnablement pas réparer ou remplacer le Produit, A&D vous remboursera le montant que vous avez payé pour le Produit (hors taxes), moins des frais raisonnables d’utilisation. Pour recevoir un remboursement, vous devez avoir retourné le Produit et tous les matériaux associés à A&D. Le recours de réparation, de remplacement ou de remboursement ci-dessus est votre seul et unique recours. EN AUCUN CAS, A&D NE SERA RESPONSABLE DE TOUT DOMMAGE, Y COMPRIS, MAIS SANS S’Y LIMITER, LA PERTE DE PROFITS, LA PERTE D’INFORMATIONS OU LES COÛTS DE REMPLACEMENT, RÉSULTANT DE VOTRE UTILISATION OU DE VOTRE INCAPACITÉ À UTILISER LE PRODUIT, Y COMPRIS, MAIS SANS S’Y LIMITER, TOUT DOMMAGE SPÉCIAL, ACCESSOIRE OU CONSÉCUTIF, MÊME SI A&D A ÉTÉ INFORMÉ DE LA POSSIBILITÉ DE TELS DOMMAGES. Certains États n’autorisent pas l’exclusion des dommages accessoires ou indirects, de sorte que les exclusions ci-dessus peuvent ne pas s’appliquer à votre cas. Cette garantie vous donne des droits légaux spécifiques, et vous pouvez également avoir d’autres droits qui peuvent varier d’un État à l’autre.
Aucun distributeur, revendeur ou autre partie n’est autorisé à accorder une garantie au nom d’A&D ou à modifier la présente garantie, ou encore à assumer en lieu et place d’A&D une quelconque responsabilité concernant ses produits.
