Unpack the machine and check the components

- Remove the packing materials and install the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
- Load paper in the paper tray.
- Connect the power cord and turn on the machine
- Select your language (if needed)

- Press Menu.
- Press ▲ or ▼ to display [Initial Setup], and then press OK.
- Press ▲ or ▼ to display [Local Language], and then press OK.
(for HL and MFC models)

- Connect the telephone line cord (for MFC models only)

A. Set the date and time - Date
- Press Menu, 0, 1, 1.
- Enter the last two digits for the year on the dial pad, and then press OK.
- Enter the two digits for the month on the dialpad, and then press OK.
- Enter the two digits for the day on the dialpad, and then press OK.

- Press ▲ or ▼ to select [12h Clock] or[24h Clock], and then press OK.
- Time
- Enter the time using the dial pad, and then press OK.(12h Clock only)Press ▲ or ▼ to select [AM] or [PM], and then press OK.

- Set your fax or telephone number and your name.
- Select a device to connect to your machine

Unlike Brother’s more expensive printers the HL-2300D doesn’t offer wireless options such as AirPrint or Google Cloud Print, and there’s no Ethernet port either: you’ve got a choice of USB, USB or USB, and as ever you’ll need to provide your own USB cable.
Although the HL-L2305W device is supported by Apple’s AirPrint for networked printers, the HL-L2300D is not, and according to Brother, the HL-L2300D is not compatible with their iPrint & Scan software available from the Mac App Store.

To connect the printer and your computer:

Place the document to be scanned on the scanner glass (Flatbed) or Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), depending on the model of your Brother machine. Press the Scan key on the Brother machine and select Scan to PC -> File, or Scan to File.
Click on Configuration -> SCAN.
Choose the type of scan you require.
The Scan to configuration window will appear.
